Music Suggestions

So I've been watching a lot of Angel and Buffy lately, and even enjoyed Firefly.

I'm looking for suggestions of some more music with the soulful string sound that sounds kind of like a cello that's the main sound in Angel. I've also heard some good cello-style stuff in The Stand, and probably more places than I can remember at work.

I'm also hankering for eerie pieces like the Leaving Walbrook piece from Rain Man, and the whistle/flute stuff from Karate Kid II (like at the tea ceremony between Kumiko and Daniel).

Please note, I haven't been able to pick out instruments reliably since about 7th grade, and that was more than 12 years ago. So it might not be a cello, but it's that soulful string sound that's a lot deeper than a violin or viola (of course it might just be really deep violin music.)

It is a cello in the Angel intro...though I wouldn't be surprised if there is some viola mixed in with it. Are you looking for more modernized kind of stuff or something classical? I'm a sucker for requiem pieces...I don't know if that'll feed what you're looking for or not but most famous composers have a few and they're usually either sinister or soulful.

A requiem is a piece of music generally requested/purchased for the purpose of playing during someone's funeral. Mozart wrote his own requiem but was also paid to create requiems for other people. Some operas have requiem portions if someone dies and their death is of some importance to the storyline. They often feature the lower ends of the brass sections and the lower ends of the string sections...a lot of oboe and bassoon as well :)
