Rogue magelo edit

One of my buddy rogues asked if I could put a cutout of him on his magelo background. He sent me a SS of his rogue duel-wielding epic 2.0 that the GM let him have for picture-taking purposes. This is my first go really, at screenshot manip. The chain armor is dark and I haven't really been able to do much about it, though I doubt he would want it "brightened up" anyway. So I was hoping you SS type folk could cast an eye over it and if anything really glaring stands out, please let me know. I am pretty brave when it comes to CC as I am used to it for dolls, but this is new to me so simple suggestions on any fixes would be appreciated :)

Btw the borders and guild name etc were not done by me, that is the guild's thingy. I just added the rogue afterwards.

Well compared to the borders, you can barely see the rogue. I know its probably the 'creeps in the shadow' idea, but how bright the borders are really stands out. You could Alt L (levels) him a little to brighten him up but not wash him out. And to make his armor pop a little more, you can put white/green highlights on him from his weapons. Just right now he really really blends into the background.

Black armor is the suck though, I used to dodge the shit out of them till it turned like brownish orange :x but you could also use blending options/inner shadow to place a nice reflecting light on him. Learned that trick from Vex.

Heh, its funny...as soon as you said that, I realised that my gamma was messsed up from eq. It does that and I am too lazy to find out why, but when I close eq it doesn't return my monitor gamma settings back to normal. So when I was working on this, he looked alot brighter to me :) I will pump it up abit and try again. Thanks for the tips on how, I use PSP9 so I will have to find equivalents to what you said as I don't think I have used anything called Alt L...though I *am* a n00b and may just have not learned that yet.

K, I did some more work to get the brightness up while not turning him rust colored. He likes it like this, so I am not changing it anymore. I still think there is more I could do to define the figure, but I am not really sure how to go about it. So that will have to wait for my next endeavor.

Toon is still a little flat. I would at the very least adjust levels and contrast on the flesh a little. Most important is if the customer is happy. :) I'd still play around with it. I like the border. :)

It still looks extremely dark to me but maybe its my monitor :( And yeah if he loves it, that's all that matters =) As for making the armor pop, you could duplicate and overlay it some. That helps me.

Are there tutorials about this? I have only really played with dolls so far, so this manip stuff is all abit new. When you say overlay what is that? Or if I am completely n00bish on that, please feel free to whip me then tell me where I can find out more.
