XMEN THE MAFIA - Day 3: Mafia Hit - Unwilling Sacrifice

The mutants wandered through the darkened tunnels beneath the city in a tight group. There were killers amongst them, as well as above, and keeping their treacherous kin close was the only way to ensure no one else went missing here in the darkness. The prospect of salvation – finding a working subway train – was at the forefront of everyone’s thoughts. If they could get on a train, maybe they could get so far away that the Sentinel’s wouldn’t even know where to begin looking, and then they could make their final escape in to Canada? Only time would tell, and time passes slowly when you are under ground.

After what seemed like hours of walked, they finally saw, cliché as it was, light at the end of the tunnel. As the approached the light, images sharpened at everyone realized that what they were coming up on was a more recently abandoned subway station. The lights were still on, it wasn’t too dirty, and, most importantly, there was an empty train parked at the platform.

After a quick scouting of the station, it was decided that no one had been here in weeks, and that it was safe to proceed. A few worried that the train might be a trap, but even if it was, what other choice did they have? They boarded it. One of the mutants knew how to pilot it, and took over the controls. The others started to relax a bit, as their spirits lifted. Escape was starting to seem like a realistic possibility.

The mutants dispersed amongst the cars, but not so much that anyone’s whereabouts were unknown, or was left alone. Two mutants stood together in the back, an uneasy air between them. Together they watched out the back window as the train started moving and the subway station faded away in to a solitary point of distant light. Toxotes wondered what this other mutant wanted from her, why he sought out her companionship all of a sudden. She didn’t like the aura that he gave off, and honestly, he scared her. Still, though, they were alone but other mutants were nearby. He wouldn’t try to hurt her now.

There was a commotion from the front of the car. Some voices were raised from some kind of petty argument, but they sounded angry, like there was about to be a fight. All the other mutants rushed forward to break it up, but when Toxotes started to walk back, the other mutant with her made his move. Before she could react, one of his legs interlaced with hers and twisted, tripping her and knocking her to the ground, with him landing hard on top of her. He was encased in metal, and weighed a ton. The blow knocked the wind out of her and probably cracked a few ribs. One of his metal-gloved hands covered her mouth and held her firm against the ground, as in his other hand materialized a very long, serrated, nasty-looking knife.

She struggled, but to no avail. When the knife finished forming, he plunged it deep in to her chest, piercing all the way through her body and through the metal floor of the train. The killer paused… Razor had driven many knives through many people, but it had never felt like that, before. He hadn’t pierced just flesh…. He stood up and backed away from his victim. Toxotoes, pinned to the ground, grinned up at him, then reached with both hands to where the knife had pierced through her. She grabbed the fabric of her shirt around the incision, and ripped it away. Now it was Razor’s turn to be terrified, as he beheld what it was that he had stabbed through with his knife: The crazy mutant was wired with a bomb. He stood petrified, completely clueless as to what to do. In his last moment, his eyes locked on to Toxotes, and she grinned at him again.

The explosion rocked the train, nearly derailing it. The mutants in the forward section were knocked to their feet and scattered about. At first, they thought it was some kind of sentinel attack, but nothing followed the initial blast. After a few wary moments, Quinn and Sabertooth led the rest of the mutants back through the train to the source of the blast. They discovered that the rearmost car had been blown completely away, no doubt leaving an impassable barrier behind them. A quick headcount showed that Razor and Toxotes were missing. Unsure what to make of these events, the mutants had no choice but to continue on, as the train sped deeper in to the tunnel and hopefully towards safety.

/ooc Verileah was the Super Secret Special Awesome Role. She was the Suicide Bomber and her role was to turn in a SKID every day. If she died, for any reason, then the person that she SKID’d died too. Enjoy :D

"I didn't know you knew how to conduct a train." Said one of the others behind marcus as he started the train.

"I didn't know I could either." Marcus stated, with a suprised look on his face.

After awhile the train shook, thinking that it might be a sentinal attack, marcus decided to keep the train going, rather than let themselves sit as an open target, hoping someone would tell him what had happened.

I shivered as I looked at the wreckage of the rear train, torn between running as hard as I could away and clinging pathetically to Sabretooth even if it meant certain death. I was still shaken by our abrupt departure from the hardware store. I kept seeing Redd's face, turning from disbelief to anger as we coldly passed her by, one by one. I had wanted to say something, to help some way, but in my fright I was swept along with the crowd. I'd tried to force myself to do something, anything, create an illusion somehow to throw off the Sentinels, but to my shame I simply ran with everyone else.

I idly wondered how long it would take for me to go insane, and welcome the freedom the Sentinels' blast would give me.

Shaking my head as if to clear it, I turned away from the remains of the rear of the train. Razor and Toxotes had been in there... was one of them the one who had been so coolly picking us off from the start? I glanced around furtively, a bit of illusion covering my eyes to make it seem as I still stared at the ground. I studied each face, wondering if the killer... or killers.. were still among us.

Emotionless Dia sat and stared at her feet. the hideous feeling in the pit of her stomach was but conected to one thing, Redd's death. After Evan had died the mutants had huddled together. Some started spreading rumors that it was Redd who had done it. Birdie refused to believe what they told her, shaking her head feverently in disagreement. It had came to a final conclussion that most of the people believe Redd a killer. A few had warned her if she told Redd that they had been making plans to ditch her out in the snow that they would do the same to her. As she fought with her inner-self the sentinals had attacked. As the mutants all jammed to run out the exit Birdie heard a call for help and turn her head. Redd layed on the ground apparently hurt. Bones jutting from places they shouldnt be. Birdie didnt have time to react as one of the larger males shoved her forward to keep her moving. Her eyes locked with Redds for a moment and saw the glimmer of dissapoint reflect back to her.

Once out Birdie spun around to see what was happening, The other mutants had closed the door on Redd, leaving her behind.

"good ridance murderer." One mutant muttered.

The irony of the comment stunned Birdie sending her back a bit. Then a sentinal turned on them once again and a large bject flew over their heads....

Birdie sighed at the memory, guilt of not doing anything welling up inside of her. She had looked for Tox earlier but didnt follow her into the back of the train once she spotted her. The camo girl wasnt much for words, it had been Redd who did most fo the talking. Still maybe she should go sit with Tox, maybe she was just as upset.

As she began to lift herself out of her seat an explosion erupted from the rear of the train. She flew to the ground as each car rocked seperatly from its power. Sabertooth ran past them, jumping over the bodies of young tossed about mutants. She got up and followed, like most fo them did and what she saw was shocking. A entire car was now missing and in its wake a large pile of rubble blocking the subway behind them.

Void of feelings once again Birdie collapsed into a seat wondering what was next.

I noticed the obvious downheartedness of the little blonde, the one who'd seemed friendly with both Redd and Tox. I sympathized with her; I'd also liked them both. I caught her eyes briefly and gave her a sad little smile, then flopped down in a seat across from her to think.
