I don't get it

Okay so I bought this laptop right? (I wanted a desktop but my small room lacks the space needed for one...so sad) anyway, I bought this thing and a friend of mine told me that I don't need a really fast processor. Okay good, that saves me money.

Well trying to install WoW and it tells me that I don't have a high enough CPU speed...well I know that CPU deals with the processor and I'm wondering if that is really important or not? I'd be really upset if I bought this thing to my friend's advice and I have to spend more to get something added.

Forgive my ignorance but I'm trying to learn more about computers and it's slow going for me...sad stuff. Anyway, any help at all would be useful.

Oh and sugestions on how I can get my cpu speed up if it's possible w/out adding or buying more stuff?

Speed is everything. :) There is no such thing as enough speed IMO. I don't know if a laptop can be overclocked. I've never done that to a laptop...I guess the answer is no, as you would have no way to keep it cool. What processor do you have in it anyway? In my GF's pc its a 1.4 ghz and it runs WoW just fine.

I'm sure one of the resident computer guru's here could answer your question better. (I'm just trying to pad my post count. :x )

CPU = central processing unit or otherwise known as the processor. The processor speed that your friend said you didn't need a lot of and the CPU speed WoW is complaining about is in fact the same thing.

Sounds like you need to find a large heavy object to pummel your friend with...

Yep, your friend doesn't know much about computers.. either that or he didn't know what you planned on doing with it...but I've never heard of anyone who knew anything about computers actually give that advice... Dude, you don't need processor speed. That's like saying yeah man, forget the Mustang and go with the Geo. *boggle*

mm yeah, always was funny to see people call their computer their CPU... cause.. its more than just a cPU.. the cpu takes up like 1/20th of the computer itself :P

should always read what the minimum/recommended specs are on a game and go from there, they have it on the box and in the manual and on their website. I think today's game have minimum req. of 800-1ghz processor speed, and a the recommended is usually 512-1gb ram

well I got reccomended which is 512, I have that. But for some reason WoW keeps telling me the same thing, and it didn't do it the first time i tried installing the game on the laptop (then problems ensued, I swore a lot, sent the thing back, they gave me 100 dollars, I was placated)

Anyway my friend is apearantly a moron and I'm not going to be taking computer advice from him anymore...that I promise!!

Is it even possible to get my processor upgraded to 1 gb? I mean if it's not going to run WoW properly I'll just take the 100 dollars they gave me and give it back to get better speed.

Upgrading laptops from what I understand can be pricy.

Yes, it is possible to upgrade you RAM (memory) to 1GB. However your processor, according to the error you are getting, will still not be sufficient. Memory and processor are 2 different components.

And I have never had a laptop in which the processor was upgradeable. This is why I've always spend big $$ when I buy a laptop; to get the fastest processor available at the time.

Wow...that is really sad and depressing. Oh well I'll just have to deal with this subpar machine. And brand new! It makes me mad but at least I have Rikr's new avatar to amuse me (hehe) and it's not so bat that I can't play at all, I just experience a lot of lag at times. Ah well. Thanks for all your help guys! (as soon as I can I will be buying a desktop)
