mmmm...

Sometimes I love my job. It's times like just now when I get to spent $100 grand. Of someone else's money. ahhh.. /purr ... It fills all of my spending desires and I never have the "I-need-to-shop-and-spend-money" urges anymore. Hell, after 9 years of doing this, I don't even want to shop for clothes, shoes or anything else. Anyone else know what I mean?

Oooh I like threads where we look at the positive things that happened to us today!

What happened to me? I decided to re-do my budget. I got a raise in March and I just tacked on the extra that I thought I was getting to the amount in my head (note: I am very bad and naughty and I do not balance a checkbook. I just keep a running total in my head of how much I have to spend on non-essentials per month and when it's gone, it's gone. I keep a buffer of about $1k in the bank).

Anyway. I had it in my head that I had $130 per month for non-essentials. I actually ran out of July money last week. So I've been suffering with no extra pop or fast food pit stops or whatnot.

But I redid my budget today and it appears that I have $185 per month to spend. Hallelujah praise the lord! That's a very nice thing for someone on such a tight budget.

And that's even allowing myself to put $40 per month into savings! Which I wasn't doing before.

I keep telling myself I'm going to start with Quicken or some other financial software to keep track of my shit better but it's such a daunting task to think of getting started. My system has worked for 10 years :P

So I got a bonus of $50 per month going forward :) Of course I'm being cautious in spending that until I know for sure I'm not forgetting any monthly bills on the budget.

To derail a bit..

I've tried MS Money and stuff before.. very complex if you don;t need all the debt management (or like me need it but never USE it /sigh) I've found the easiest thing is a simple excel spreadsheet with a tab for each month and break your bills down by paychecks. It works as long as the other bank drainer doesn't spend too much.. (yeah right!) And I grabbed a simple template for a checkbook register off microsuck for excel and I just enter the paycheck deposit and then put things in there all at once that I know are upcomming bills then the little expenses as they clear the bank. You think you only have XX dollars which keeps you from spending impending bills' money =D

Derail off :)
