Am I the only one that has played this game?

This game is, in my opinion, the best RPG ever written. Yet, I can't find anyone else that has played it.

I have it, haven't gotten a chance to play much of it though. But what I did play of it, I enjoyed very much.

I've played it but I never got really far. It's been so long I just can't remember how far I've actually gotten, but it was never more than three hours into the game.

I Played it a few years ago. In fact I bought this at the exact same time as I bought Everquest - and put off playing Everquest to play this first (a friend had recommended Everquest I was iffy). Torment I got near the end and had everything uncovered and got a little stuck, and my computer was a pos so it was glitching really bad - so I tried out EQ and never finished Torment.
I'd love to find it again and play it all over. The story wsa pretty damn cool

I ended up rebuying the game after I moved out here to Arizona. I had left my copy back in Illinois.

$8 for 2 games... no idea what the other game is like though since I haven't touched it.

The main character is an immortal who comes back to life every time he dies. The only catch is that he doesn't remember anything about his past lives. He wakes up in a mortuary, covered with scars (some of which are actually written instructions that have been carved into his body) smelling like embalming fluid, and looking like a zombie. The first thing you see is a floating, talking skull. The scars carved into your back give you some guidance as to where to go, and who to see (It's kind of like the movie Memento), and with that you are off on your quest to discover your identity. Along the way, you discover deep and disturbing truths about yourself, your past lives, your companions, and the world around you. After learning what you are and what you must do, the game spirals to a final and truly epic finish.
What makes this game better than any other RPG is that the creators of the game weren't afraid to think outside the box. The downside is that some of this uniqueness turns people off to the game. In most RPG's (especially other Black Isle/Bioware games) you spend a lot of your time working your way through dungeons. In Planescape, you spend most of your time walking around and talking to people. There is a lot of reading to be done in this game. The creators estimate that there are approximately 1,000,000 words or dialogue to be read. Many people don't have the patience for that much reading, but I think it is worthwhile. All the dialogue is so deep that it feels like you are living inside a good book while you are playing, and it is what makes the game what it is.
Another thing is that the developers really stepped away from traditional fantasy archetypes when they made this game. There are no elves at all in this game, no sweeping magestic forests, no towering mountain ranges, no castles, nothing that you would expect to see in a typical RPG. It takes place in the planes (kind of like the EQ PoP expansion, but better in every way), where everything can and does exist. I don't want to spoil the game, so I will just say that the variety of things you experience in this game is staggering. There are so many moments where you just have to stop and say "Wow... that is awesome".
The best part of the game is discovering about your past, the things you have done, and your part in shaping the world as it is today. The second best part is all the companions that you can travel with, and learning what it is that binds each of them to you. The companions that you can travel with are all unique and original, each with their own detailed personality and history. Each of them is bound to you for their own reason, and discovering those reasons is one of my favorite parts of the game. The downside is that a lot of people look at the game and think "wtf? I don't want to play some game with an ugly zombie looking thing as the main character and a talking skull as his henchman. That's stupid." This is really unfortunate because they are really missing out.
Anyways, I will stop ranting now. I just really really love this game - so much so that I feel obligated to try and turn as many people as I can on to it. It is a really, really great game and every time I replay it I just love it more.
Enjoy, and here is a torrent for it if you're into that sort of thing: http://torrentspy.com/search.asp?mode=torrentdetails&id=311341

Mileron imagines EQ-PoP a'la Planescape Torment and dies from a Planes-gasm.
Morte - the floating talking skull - is one of THE FUNNIEST sidekicks in a game EVAR
