HP coloring

still in a harry potter kinda mood, apparently.

hooray for coloring other people's stuff. this drawing is by the wonderful Makani ( http://makani.deviantart.com - http://www.utdallas.edu/~hxc034100/abindex.html )

only the crappy coloring job is mine - posted with her permission. :)

mmm...couldn't find the original images at the deviant art page....and the other link didn't quite work....Looks like great colouring to me, but it's hard to tell without seeing what it was you coloured to begin with. Perhaps you could post links to the pics on deviant art?

ah, the second link goes to a site that doesnt work with firefox... i'll just grab the images....

both images shown here are makani's - they have not been altered, they're hosted by me because i dont want to direct link to her site and suck up her bandwith.

Go darker on the owl!! The malfoys is awesome, what a cute picture of them. /sniff Good job on the shading :thumbsup

darker? darker?! lol, the bloody things are white as snow, its too dark the way it is. i know what you mean, though, looks totally blah. *ponder* maybe a bit more bluish? hm...
ROzbeans 20 years ago
Well, would their roots be darker? Actually I dont know how you'd do that on an animal. But yeah maybe more bluish, do black tips?

They look awesome, I love the owl. Such cute expressions she has on her and the Malfoys are shaded very well. :)

snow owl is one of my favorite animals, ive always loved that harrys pet was leet

The colourings are great, much better than my own feeble attempts.
I do agree with Mae though, the snow owl needs to be darkened. The shadows can easily go down to 60% brightness, maybe even lower, depending on your technique.

i had it darker while i was coloring it, and it looked silly. the problem with snowies is that they're so brilliantly white that not even their shadows are too dark. do a google image search if you dont believe me, its startling just how white they are. im thinking i might add a bit more a blue tint to her if i color her again... also, i could get away with having her be darker in general if there was a black or dark background for contrast, but on a white background like that, having her any darker would really just make her look grey, which isnt very snowy.

Mm...I actually had done a google image thingy...of a snow all sitting in snow on a sunny day. It doesn't get much brighter than that, and the darkest places were slightly above 60% brigthness....

Nevermind, forget it...doesn't matter...

you've lost me with the 60% thing anyway... i dont use photoshop so im not sure how to replicate that
Dark_Wolf 20 years ago
Well, it's when you view colours as Hue, Saturation and Brightness, intsead of red, green and blue.
A grey with 60% brightness is the same as a #999999 in webcode, and 153, 153,1 53 in RGB.
