I want that note! Malenko roared and slammed his gauntlet-clad fist into the ancient tiled wall of the Freeport sewer system, bringing a shower of dust down from the ceiling. Calming himself, Malenko levied his piercing gaze on the young rogue standing accross the sewer from him.

Listen, it's bad enough that I have to meet you down in these sewers in the first place. The rest of this city isn't as accepting of Tier'Dal, whether they be on our side or not. But then you bring me news that Caitlinn and her merry band have killed Dorn? He was one of our top spies dammit! Now how in the hell am I to get advance knowledge of Grobb and Oggok troop movement? Malenko started restlessly pacing back and forth.

Ok, here's what I want you to do: Malenko said, wheeling around to face the spy, go back to Axxelle's camp and take up your guise as one of her loyal guards again. Don't get yourself killed, but if the opportunity presents itself read that note and report back to me what's going on. Oh, and see if you can somehow prevent Wolenu from being tortured too much. We've got a rescue to plan. With that Malenko turned and stalked out of the sewers.

*******

I don't give a good god damn whether it's ethical or not! CAN you do it?

Wizaro reeled momentarily at the ferocity of Malenko's inquiry. It was not every day one of the highest ranking members of their allies in the Temple of Marr burst into his office demanding to know if it was possible to translocate someone directly to Felwithe. He regained his composure almost intantly however. He hadn't spent all the time getting to where he was to be intimidated by a mere cleric.

I'll THANK YOU to remember just who you're talking to young Malenko. I was touring the various Combine portals of this world long before you hefted your first mace. I can do anything you ask of me. The question is, are you ready for the potential consequences? What makes you think they'll listen to you in Felwithe? You'll get there alright, but it remains to be seen if your time shall be wasted on the ears of the deaf. What I'm wondering is if you're ready for what you'll encounter? With that, the elder wizard settled back into the slightly uncomfortable chair that was in his Freeport office. He despised the city with all it's petty squabbles and infighting. he longed secretly for his comfortable chateau high above the city of Erudin. His thoughts were interrupted by the impetuous young cleric who had intruded upon his afternoon nap.

There's nothing in Felwithe that scares me. Now do it. Fingering his the fiathstone of courage that would bring Malenko back to his office in the Temple at a moments notice, he silently wished he believed his words half as much as Wizaro did.

*******

BY THE GODS THEY'LL PAY FOR THIS! Lumadwen roared as he hurled an innocent flower vase that had the gall to be sitting on his desk against the wall.

Suddenly, Malenko was no longer in Wizaro's quarters, but in a nondescript room in what he could only assume was Felwithe. The roar of outrage and the shattering glass mere inches from his ear tipped him off that his suspicions were correct. He silently thanked the gods that he hadn't fully materialized when the vase shattered or he would have needed his own skills as a cleric. And that was a distraction he did not need.

Take care when you throw around pottery my dear paladin, you never know when you'll hurl a vase sacred to a god, Malenko chuckled as he stepped away from the wall and the attention of all in the room turned towards him.

Malenko, how did you . . . Vebran stammered in disbelief at the cleric's impromptu entrance.

Relax Vebran my good man. Do you think your darling wife is the only person on this planet who can teleport? With that he flashed Caitlinn a smile and took his place in an empty seat, propped his feet up on Luma's desk, and made himself at home.

Well, i wish I could say it was good to see you Malenko, but right now we've more important matters to bear than mere chit chat. It seems . . . Luma started, but was cut off in mid-sentence by when Malenko raised his hand, commanding silence.

I know exactly what the situation is Luma. While our merry band of trouble makers over here think they're so slick, what with impersonating Tier'Dal and all, they've really created more of a mess than the combined armies of Freeport and Neriak could ever hope to. Malenko ignored the angry glares he received from the other Scarlets in attendance and continued.

Now now now, relax my friends. I'm sure that if I didn't have a city to try and protect from those damn dark elves I'd look a little more jovially on your antics. However, from my point of view, that's all they are, antics. First off, you ran around killing any lone Tier'Dal you could find, thinking you were doing some kind of good. Did you ever stop to think some of us that actually live in that area might have some use for them? Why the hell else do you think the Knights of Truth have let them live for so long?

Kizdean Gix was a slimeball and I'm glad he's dead, but Dorn B'Dynn was a spy under our employ. Because of you I had to send out ten cases of my finest dwarven ale to the leaders of Grobb and Oggok respectively to make sure they don't plan anything while I get another spy set up to provide advance warning of troop movements to our south.

Add to that you went and drew attention to Wolenu. Stand up job of creating unrest there I might add. Now one of our best friends has been captured by Axelle and it's all your fault. So listen, don't do anything stupid. I've got a spy working with me right now IN Axelle's camp. He's going to tell us where Ole's being held. And when he does, they will be hell to pay. He's also going to be telling me exactly what axelle's little trip to see General V'Deers in the Overthere was about. Now, here's what I suggest. . .

With that, Malenko suddenly became deadly serious, and began outlining his plan to save Wolenu and put a crimp in Axelle's plans. . .

As the sun burned red and slowly inched towards the horison as if the darkness of the night was trying to push it from the sky, the Ranger master Kithicor was sitting near the camp fire just outside his humble abode.

From inside his house there was a rustling of chain and steel as if one was preparing for a trip into the desolate woods Kithicor called home. From the simly lit home another figure opened the door and moved into the open.

So, Erioch do you plan on foolishly going off to face the War Priestess alone?

Yes Kith, if I do not then who will?

Ah, so I see you still prefer to live foolishly? Charging headlong into battle carelessly and not thinking of your own safety?

Well, as long as the job is accomplished and my goals are acheived then what is there to lose my old friend?

You know Erioch you always did make me laugh. You seem to think yourself immortal. Did you ever think that your actions may get you killed one of these days?

"laughing softly" Well Kith that is what we Rangers do!

Only the fool heartedly like yourself. So what do you think you can accomplish by vanquishing the War Priestess?

" a rustling comes from the brush near the house as if not caring if they are noticed by the Rangers"

Yes Erioch, what do you think you can accomplish by this task?

Oh, it is only you Giz... What brings you here?

Funny Ranger I should be asking you the same thing.

Well, that all depends on how long you have been listening in for.

Well I did happen to hear about you trying to take on War Priestess T'Zan all by yourself.

You heard correctly then Dark Elf. Glad to see your ears work as mine do.

Watch yourself Ranger. I have helped you once before in the past, but with this I am afraid i cannot assist you.

That is fine, I think I can handle one woman myslef.

See, that is where you are wrong. Unless you think you can defeat not only her, but the regiment she is taking to Nektulos to reinforce the defences of Lady Axelle.

A regiment you say? What would they need another regiment of troops in Nerkiak for?

Well there has been reports of a few of your old friends masquarading around as my kin and slaying them. I think you know who they are.

Tell me, who is behind this?

Do the names Caitlinn, Vebran, Aramous, Raavin, and Tanas ring a bell?

My god, I leave them alone for awhile and look what happens! Well that just makes it to where I cannot fail!

You mean to actually tell me that you plan on taking on not only the War Priestess, but a fully armed regiment of troops by yourself?! You have to be out of your mind!

Well. Like the old saying goes " not every man truely lives, but it is what you do with your time while you are here that counts"

Well then Ranger, I am afraid I must leave you to go out on your little mission. I just hope when they do kill you it is fast and painless.

Take care of yourself Giz, we will meet again mark my words.

"hastily the Dark Elf leaves the camp as quickly as he arrived"

Well Erioch, I know there is no talking you out of this so all i can do is wish you well my friend.

Thank you Kith, I shall return.

"with that Erioch lifts his bow and quivers of arrows and makes his way out into the twilight"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
" Evening passes by slowly and the undead were unusually scarse this evening, as if something was keeping them at bay. Perched atop an old oak near the road, Erioch sat patiently as if waiting for his prey."
Down the broken path there came the noise of armored troops marching in formation. Metal plates clanked while they marched steadily down the path arrogantly as if not fearing any of the dangers the forest has, but that all was about to change.
An arrow whistles down from the tree tops and embedds itself but a few feet in front of the first line of troops in the column and everyone stops. Just then a beautiful yet stern voice comes from behind.
Why have we stopped?!
War Priestess, someone has shot an arrow our way from the trees up ahead.
Oh really? Well we shall have to make this hapless fool pay for interfering with my business!
" Just then on the path ahead a cloaked figure jumps down from atop a tree landing firmly on the road"
Do you dare defy me stranger?!
Shut your mouth woman and pray to the gods that I am merciful to you!
Ha! Do you honestly think that you can best me? A Dark Elven War Priestess?
You may be able to scare your troops with your talk but you do not frighten me one bit. Now, if you care to live you will take this rabble and find your way back to where you came, or...
Or what? What do you think you can do?
I will leave your burning corpse on the steps of Nerkiak.
Well then. I see I am going to have a bit of fun before I reach my beloved home. Prepare yourself friend for you are about to be sacrificed to my Lord Innoruk!
Check your facts wench. Innoruk is no more
"from under the cloak the figure produces a sword with a single green stone mounted in the hilt, blades arced with lightning"
Look familiar? Like the soul stone of your Lord? I thought so.
It cannot be! Creature I do not know who you are but prepare yourself to feel the wrath of the Indigo Brotherhood!
"Just then the man removes the cloak and tosses it aside. Clad in golden brown chain armor with two nearly identical swords strapped at his side and a bow of the finest Velium across his back. One arm reaches behind and grasps the bow and brings it in front of him."
Now I shall show you the same mercy I showed your creator.
"Just then the sky begins to grow dark, lightning striking the ground all about the Ranger, swirling winds throwing dirt all around him in a swirling vortex as his bow begins to crackle with power"
Ok woman... Bring it.
Prepare to die Ranger! Attack!!!
As the Dark Elven warriors charge forward, Erioch lets out a small smile as he jumps back drawing three arrows and nocking them with only the fluid grace of an elf, then loosing them felling the first three Dark Elven Warriors to approach him.
"What are you doing?" shouts the War Priestess "Use your vision and hide form him in the darkness"
The Ranger chuckles to himself once again as he reaches into one of his bags donning a helmet made form only the finest materials and crafted by master artisans not of this world "If they only knew"
Just then Erioch begins to cast a spell, bluish strands of mana begin encircling him moments before he vanishes.
The Warriors stand there dumbfounded looking about for the Ranger unable to find him. Just then it was as if arrows began falling from the heavens piercing through their Teir'Dal Breastplates. One by one they found their numbers dwindling yet the War Priestess stood her ground.
You fools he is over there! "pointing to the rocks off to the side of the road"
The dark skinned warriors charged the hiding point of the Ranger and yet he did not flee from where he stood as if taunting them with his defiance. By the time they approached him all but three remained alive.
Just as Erioch began to draw an arrow from his quiver one of the Warriors brought his sword up as if to strike. Sensing his foe was about to strike him down with a mighty blow he stabbed the arrow upwards inbetween two plated pieces in the dark elve's breastplate sending the tip into his heart then pushing the lifeless corpse back onto one of his comrades behind him.
He then reached back for another arrow while keeping an eye on the one standing opponent. The Dark Elf swung at him with strength and grace, however upon bringing his sword back for another strike the Wood Elf jumped high into the air and while above his adversary shot an arrow down into the top of his skull.
As the final warrior struggled to get free from the body pushed onto him he looked up and saw an arrow writhing in flame pointed down directly at him. A split sedond later feeling a burning inside his head while struggling to take his last mortal breath.
After the killing blow was delivered to the last remaining warrior in the War Priestess's regiment Erioch cast his bow to the side and reached for the hilts of the swords at his side as he turned to face her.
Now that you have had your warm up light flesh, let's settle this.
Let's see what you got! spoke the confident Wood Elf
The War Priestess jumped towards her adversary seething with hate wanting to taste his blood on her lips, swinging her large two handed adamantium sword at his head hitting nothing but the murky air of the woods.
You are going to have to better than that if you think you have a chance at killing me... woman
Damn you! You will not live to see the light of the next day if I have anything to do about it. May you feel the wrath of the Tier' Dal!
The War Priestess brings both hands above her head as if to cleave the Ranger in two, but as she is about to bring the sword down on top of him she feels him driving one of his blades into her black heart.
Now, you can feel the same pain that your Lord felt just before I killed him. Give him my regaurds when you meet him in hell.
Seconds later the War Priestess finally choked to death on her own blood and the light of the world grew dark for her. The last thing she was able to see was the Wood Elven Ranger walking off and disappearing into the darkness of the forest as if nothing happened.
Helspeth sat in her padded chair listening to her pristesses chant around her trying to ressurect the dead dragoons thoughout the room. When Vdarious entered in with 3 of his men.
" You have her I assume? Because I know you would not be here unless you achieved your mission." Helspeth hissed.
" I do not take orders from you Helpeth, it would do you good to keep this in mind. What I did for you, I did as a favor." Vdarious replied. Vdarious turns to his men and with a nod from his head they drop the bundle on to the floor and open the large sack that is sprouting leaves. " I have done as you asked, you had better hope that you can talk some sense into her, or from here on out I can not promise her safety. The Indigo Brotherhood have declared war against them and she is included."
" Did anyone see you?" asked Helspeth.
" Yeah, they all did. They were all there, no doubt they wanted to talk with Wolenu as badly as we did. Aramous was talking with her before we had a chance to grab her. But don't worry, if he found out anything from her, he won't be telling anyone. One of my men saw to that." replies Vdarious.
" Oh, what a shame." says Helpeth with a smirk. Helspeth stands up and walks over to Vdarious, fingering his breastplate she asks, " Now, is there anything I can do to repay you? The pleasure would be all yours." Vdarious removes her hand forcefully. " No thank you Helspeth, I must return to my post. My wife will do my pleasing for me"
Helspeth shrugs, "Very well then, leave me with her. I'll find the information we wish to know."
Vdarious gives Helspeth a evil grin " I think you are putting to much faith in blood. Your sister she may be. But she's loyal to her people and she will never talk to you. But waste your time if you must. I have better things to do." Vdarious turns and walks out with his men following.
Helspeth nudges Wolenu with her foot. " I know you are awake dear sister. You can get up now. I have a few questions to ask you. And dont think about gating out of here. You answering me may very well save your life... and the life of your friends."
" Did it save Aramous? How, could you do that! How could you have Aramous killed, after you have fought together side by side? You, Helspeth have changed" replies Wolenu sitting up, wiping away a tear.
Helspeth shrugs " He got in the way, I could not help that. You and I needed to speak before things go farther. It was them that started this, remember that. But also keep in mind it is the Indigo Brotherhood that will finish it."
Wolenu laughs, " You sound pretty sure of yourself for a pristess that is having her aides ressurect the dead around her."
Helspeth grins evilly, " With Axelle leading us, with what I'm sure she has in store for you and your friends. I have reason to be. Now lets stop this, your wasting my time. I want to know where Caitlinn found the magic to change herself."
Wolenu smiles at Helspeth " Vdarious was right you put to much faith in blood. I'm your sister by force. I did not choose you. But I did choose them. I will not betray them. Besides, I have yet to speak with Caitlinn, so even if I wanted to tell you, I could not."
" I can tell your lieing! I cannot protect you anymore after this. You will be as free a target as the rest of them unless you help me!" hisses Helspeth.
" Your threats mean nothing to me Sister! And you are beginning to bore me! You should also take head that here on in I cannot protect you either. I will let them know that if you interfer with their plans they are to strike at you will full force. Goodbye Helspeth I believe we are done." With that said Wolenu chants and with the blink of a eye gates out of the chamber.
One of the priestess appears at Helspeths side. " Would you like us to go after her. I'm sure that we can trace her magic and find her."
" Yes, do that and have one of the wizards take a rogue with him. One that won't mess up the job. I want her followed and nothing more. Make sure he reports in with Axelle. I'm sure she ill be interested to know where Wolenu goes as well." grins Helspeth. She sits back in her chair and listens to the chanting once more.
Just a thought, since this is a story, and it has to be told in installments, why don't we do something to prevent installments being typed up at the same time? (for instance, had Caitlinn and I typed something up at the same time, the story would have looked veeery weird.)
So, I propose this: when you start to type up a reply, simply post you're typing a reply. After you're finished, deleted the post claiming you are typing something.
It'll prevent anything weird from happening =)
Re: Caitlinn V'Bran, Neriak's most wanted.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Caitlinn dug into her pack as she listened to Malenko's plan. Finding what she wanted, she hefted the heavy pear into her hand and reached leaned over to Snub. She nudged him softly in the ribs and nodded towards his Rage Bringer.
"You know, this is kind of a special weapon." Snub said handing her his rogue epic.
"Indeed. I can cut these babies up in a flash with this haste." Caitlinn winked and set about her task at hand.
"Caitlinn?" The Druid looked at Malenko. "We're here right now, with others from the guild undoubtedly coming, because of what you and group seem to find fun."
Caitlinn took a bite out of a sliced piece of her pear.
"By killing Dorn B'Dynn you might've ruined any chances of us getting an insight into the General's plans."
The druid wiped some juice from the chin. "Uh huh."
Malenko's face turned red.
"Alright, here's the thing," Caitlinn started.
Tanas finished her sentence, "We didn't kill B'Dynn. If you had asked us first, we would've told you."
Raavin smiled, "Look within your ranks, Cleric. B'Dynn's blood does not stain our hands."
Caitlinn stood and walked over to Malenko. "Purple." She pointed to his breastplate. "I like it, says...'strong like bull'." Malenko rolled his eyes and sat down.
The large oak door leading into the room opened and Baron Scartak stepped into the room. "Gentlemen," he said and then bowed before Caitlinn, "Cait. I've spoken to Axelle in Neriak. Seems we're surrounded."
Tanas chuckled, "Oh yeah, we're surrounded. There are Indigo Brotherhood warriors everywhere."
Scartak, Felwithe's Security High Elven Captain, looked at Caitlinn, "Just what did you do?"
Feigning shock, "It wasn't just me. Sure, blame the taxi. This is way past the group of us goofing around killing some minor dark elves. They're interested in how we change our appearance, but I dont see Innoruk getting all frantic because Enchanters have the ability to change their appearance. This is SO not my fault." She shrugged.
Vebran, who had been sitting quietly listening to the proceedings asked his wife in a soft voice, "I think they're curious as to how a 'druid' can become a dark elf. The rest of us use a magic mask from old to change...you dont, my dear."
"Yeah, that is a good question." Caitlinn laughed.
/OOC ok one small chapter before I go to bed Tomorrow, I will destroy Surefall Glade, MUAHAHAHAH!
***
Axelle was so tired. She just realize she haven’t slept in three days. She was looking at the window of her office, which have a view on the on the lake (she forgot it’s name) and the neon signs on the rock face of the city. She founded them relaxing.
Everything was chaotic in the last few days. Many questions unanswered. She started to doubt that she would last more than a week in her new position before the Indigo Brotherhood would replace her.
But the day ended on a good note. Finally, she got good news from her subordinate N’Farre. A young recruit, is name was Konradd, got away in Caitlinn’s company, just as she planned. Let’s hope he’ll do his job right, she told herself. For the first time of the day , Axelle was smiling.
She took a last sip of elven blood wine and then took a blanket from a hanger. She laid down on a camp bed she installed under her desk. She‘ll try to get some sleep, she deserved it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Malenko sat at his personal table in Hogcaller's Inn in West Freeport, trying to choke down the fresh venison the serving wench had placed before him. He had parted ways with the companions on good terms, having convinced them of the severity of Wolenu's plight. Tanas had agreed to placate a worried Scartak and scout the Tier'Dal troop encampments on Faydwer while the rest stayed in Felwithe preparing for the rescue that was to come the following day. Just as he prepared to taste the first bite of real food he had had since the beginning of the failed Tier'Dal assault on Freeport, his aide burst into the Inn and dashed over to his table.
Sir, you must come quickly! Sir Lucan has sent an urgent summons for you at the western gate, stated the extremely out of breath aide.
What is it now Percival? Can this accursed city not survive a hour without divine intervention? Malenko threw down his knife and stalked out of the Inn towards the gate.
*******
Sir Lucan D'Lere stood on the ramparts above the western gate of Freeport and stared disconsolantly out at the sunset over the commonlands. His pride still burned from having been saved by a damned Priest of Marr and those goody two shoes Knights of Truth. He was loathe to admit it, but he'd be serving that blue bitch Axelle dinner as her personal manservant tonight were it not for their assistance. At a nudge from his second in command Brother Gentry, Lucan turned to watch as one very put out cleric stalked up to him.
Malenko, what a pleasure it is to see you again, Lucan said with a bow that none in attendance mistook for sincerity. I do believe someone has left a package for you. With that, Lucan gestured out past the ramparts to the fields in front of the gates. There, approximately 100 yards away, were several dark elven heads on pikes, and a mutilated body.
Malenko let out a gasp and dashed to inspect the gruesome display. He recognized instantly the head of Dorn B'Dynn on one of the pikes, but quickly turned his attention to the body lying in front of them. Turning the body over with his foot, he bent down to check the pulse of his most trusted spy, the elf whom he had talked to in the sewers not 24 hours ago. As he was about to turn away, Malenko noticed something out of place with the body. Staring intently, he knelt back down.
Would you look at this, he addressed to no one in particluar. The bracer on his right hand has been turned around the wrong way. No dark elf in his right mind would wear his armor askew like that. With a few cursory tugs, Malenko removed the bracer and inspected it. There, strapped to the inside, was a piece of parchment. Pulling it free, he scanned it's contents curiously.
General Axelle,
You are herby ordered to take the regiment of troops under your command to the area north of Qeynos known as
Surefall Glade. You will then proceed to eleminate the druid and ranger guildmasters there. If any other of those damned
Karana worshipping slime get in your way, I believe you know what to do. Leave all unnecessary perssonal behind, we must
make sure your forces go unnoticed. I cannot stress to you how paramount it is that you are successful. A setback like
this will no doubt send the forces of Qeynos reeling and allow us to focus more fully on Freeport and then Faydwer.
Signed,
General V'Ghera
So, Malenko mused. Axelle is going to be in Surefall tomorrow. I fear there's no time to warn the peaceful inhabitants of the Glade, but perhaps this will allow us to free Wolenu and any other prisoners that might be there. Yes, I'd say things are shaping up quite nicely. Malenko turned and started to walk away before his aide pointed to another piece of parchmen tacked to one of the poles. Turning back, he snatched it off and read it quickly. When he was through, he took a moment and peered more intently at the four heads beside Dorn's. Then, to the appalled shock of his aide, he began laughing, softly at first but growing till the raucous laughter could be heard by Lucan and the rest of the guards back on the ramparts.
Sir, his flushed aide began, with all due respect, I don't find any of this funny at all.
Of course you don't Percival, stated Malenko, fighting to regain his composure. You didn't know our spies like I did. It seems this note was from my old pal Vdarious. He took it upon himself to "take care of a small matter of espionage in the Tier'Dal ranks."
I'm sorry, but I still fail to see the point
It's simple. You see the four "spies" who are impaled next to Dorn and this young dark elf at our feet? The aide nodded. I've never seen them before in my life.
The aide stared at the four heads of the innocent Tier'Dal officers who had been "taken care of" by Vdarious. Finally starting to see the humor in the situation, he turned and followed Malenko back to the Inn.
For the first time in a long long time, the two Generals met again, in the safety of the Tier’dal outpost in the Overthere. So? I’ve heard that the prophecy is becoming true…, asked V’Ghera to V’Deers.
-Part of it, at least, my good V’Ghera. We have the “Two Unlikely Sisters”, the “Lone Ranger” and the “Powerful Unkept Druid”, answered the General, sipping his tea.
-Seems to me that everything is in place now…
-Not yet, interrupted V’Deers. There's still two missing parts: the “Forbidden Love” and an “Unforgivable Betrayal”. Only then, the prophecy will be complete.
Both men smiled and sat back comfortably in their chair, dreaming and contemplating both their bright future. They were certainly not expecting that Caitlinn V’Bran had plans of her own…
You know, the High Council is getting impatient, said softly N’Farre to Axelle. They wants some action taken.
-I know, said an desperate Axelle.I’m open to suggestions.
Her office was silent. None of N’Farre, Vdarious, Helspeth nor Dantael could offer something.
-I maybe have an idea. Everyone then turned expectantly to Dantael. If we cannot hurt Caitlinn V’Bran, lets hurt her friends.
-I like that! What do you propose?
Danteal thought a moment. My sources indicate that her husband, the rock star, what’s it’s name again?….Vebran I believe. All other in the room shrugged unknowingly.
V’bran and Vebran? How silly of them! They both deserves death for lack of imagination!, interrupted Vdarious.
Every one in the room raised an eye to the tall warrior.
Anyway, as I said, my sources says that he’s from Surefall Glade and that he was, at one time, the guardian of Tunare’s sacred bears. That’s how Caitlinn and him met, actually. Also, it as been said that he was still very fond of those animals.
She paused again. I say, let’s hit the heart of Surefall Glade to hit the heart of Vebran! , hitting the desktop with her fist.
Axelle was very pleased of her apprentice. She showed much hate and evilness. One day, maybe, she’ll be hateful enough to replace me, she thought to herself. On the other hand, she didn’t like the idea of dispersing her troops away from home like that. Surefall Glade is still far away. And it’s not an easy task to raze a town like that.
-The 22nd of cavalry is still exercising in the forest of Kithikor. , offered Vdarious. They can be at Surefall Glade before tomorrow night.
Axelle stood up, Very well then, Surefall Glade shall fall before tomorrow night. I will personally lead the 22nd. I need to get out of this office which is slowly transforming me into a politician.
Beaten, cold, and alone, Wolenu was very afraid. Never before had she been out of touch with her powers. Every time she tried to gate out of the stone room. Strong magic wracked her body and interrupted the process. She was afraid that her friends would not make it time. The many dark elfs that came in taking thier turns at beating her had all looked like they would to kill her on the spot. She was also afraid that they would make it time, for why else would they be keeping her alive except to set a trap for them. She was concentrating on that question and didn't hear the sinister dark elf enter the room, carring a very ugly dagger.
"Well, they tell me you don't know the answer to thier questions. But we shall see about that. If anything is going to make you talk this will."
Wolenu was snapped out of her trancelike state when she felt searing pain her leg. She looked down and saw him entering the dagger deep within her thigh and could see a dark green light begin to pulse once it was in deep enough.
"Now you will tell me what need to know or you will die. There is enough poison in that dagger to kill you. I predict that you have about 15 mins to live unless you tell what I want to know. If you cooperate I'll give you the antidote and you can leave. Now tell me how is your friend Caitlinn able to change into a darkelf? Never before have we seen a druid with the ability to do so."
" I don't know, If I knew don't you think that I would have changed myself, being druid as well?" Wolenu hissed.
"What do you and your friends know of the prophecy?" he asked twisting the dagger a little and making Wolenu cry out.
"I don't know of any prophecy. And If I did, I wouldn't tell you. Kill me if you like but I'll not tell you a thing"
Angry now he took the dagger and plunged it into her other thigh. " Your time is growing short, I suggest you answer my questions. What do you know about the Forbidden Love and the Unforgivable Betrayal?"
Feeling weak and tired the room began to spin. All Wolenu wanted to do was lay down but the dark elf held her up. Whispering faintly she tried to answer." I told you....I'm not going to answer your questions so finish it now... before you bore me to death."
Right as he was about to deliver the final blow, Helspeth stepped out of the shadows and hit him over the head with her stick. "You fool! What do you think you are doing? We need her to fufill the prophecy! You kill her and all is lost!" Helspeth begins to chant and pulls the poison from Wolenus almost dead body. The wounds begin to seal and color returns to her face.
Wolenu has passed out.... but not before hearing that she is part of this prophecy and hopes that her friends hurry to her side and they will do the right thing if they must, to keep the prophecy from coming true. She feels that all goodness is counting on her and her friends and as darkness surrounds her she makes a promise to tunare that they will prevail... one way or another.
A darkelf unknown to Neriak but able to pass freely in the city do to most darkelves keeping to themselves, walked away from the shadows of Axelle's office.....He had gotten past the guards at the entrance of the solid stone structure easy enough.
He himself granted the ability to walk as silently as most rogues practiced in the arts.
Many things spun though his head but from what he just overheard, he knew he needed to make haste in his exit of the dark city.
Walking to a deserted part of Neriak, he went into the shadows near some boxes and barrel.
He paused to listen and have a good look around.
He said the word that brought forth the magic of his breastplate.
The Breastplate had belonged to the well known ranger of legend, Tolan.
He was surrounded by tendrils of light blue magic and was gone......
Almost an instant after he disappeared form Neriak, he reappeared in Lesser Faydark.
He called to a falcon overhead. When the falcon settled on his golden chain bracer, he whispered specific instructions.
The falcon hovered in mid air while the ranger finished casting his spell.
With the spirit of the wolves the falcon flew off at unbelievable speeds.
Tanas smiled to himself knowing that there would be a nice surprise waiting for Axelle and her simple company of Tier'Dal.
No less than 250 Warders would await her and her horde. 800 Troops would drop before they even knew what hit them.
He also knew that the druids would be there in support. The Tier'Dal were walking into an ambush and they had no idea that they were marching to their deaths.
He had plans for Axelle and ran off to tell the others what each of their parts would be in the upcoming battle.
He whispered a phrase and reverted from Dark Elf to Wood Elf and with a glance one more time in the direction in which the falcon went he turned and started to run to Felwithe to let Scartak know what his role would be in a very bright future........and very near future.....
"Well poop."
Caitlinn was digging in her evil eye bag, looking for her neriak pears. She ate the last one during the meeting. With a sigh she looked around the empty room and thought about the recent events.
Counting off on her fingers she named the dilemmas, "K, one...Wolenu captured. That's going to be difficult. Two, Malenko is up to something...that'll just be fun." She emphasized her tone on her last word. "Then we have three, the bajillion Dark Elves surrounding Felwithe. Oh, can't forget four...the dark elves in guild aren't too happy with me...hmm, my faction cannot get any worse, I would imagine. And five...I'm out of pears and they only grow in Nek Forest."
The druid tapped the hilt of her scimitar with her middle finger. "Well I need pears." With that she stood up and walked out of the room.
****
Balek Soulblyght stood defiantly staring down the group of Dark Elves that had been harassing a young human female near the rings of Lavastorm. Swinging his mail ever so slightly, he told the dark elves again, "I think ye needing to be moving on, darkies."
The four dark elves slowly surrounded the teal armored cleric. Balek took the human female by the arm and sent her gently behind him, to stand next to the gypsy vendor who gratefully scurried away to the other gypsy encampment in the area.
"Little dwarf, you have no business here and now you have ruined our fun. She was only human." One dark elf said.
"You know the humans have destroyed their lands, they'll not destroy ours," snarled another as he leaped towards Balek who easily smite him with a little cleric retribution. The dark elf fell to the ground, mortally wounded. His companions did not take this act too lightly.
Suddenly they were all blinded by a flash a light as the druid portal opened and a druid stepped out.
"Well if it isn't Bay-Lick," Caitlinn said over annunciating his name. "Oh my, and some dark elves too."
"Its her!" The dark elves turned towards the druid.
"Tsk tsk, gentlemen," with a flick of her hand she sent an area effect root onto the dark men. Thorns suddenly tore through the ashy ground, up around the legs of the men, piercing their armor, wounding them sufficiently enough. "Manners...where are the manners?"
Caitlinn walked over and hugged Balek. "You have the best timing, love." He said gratefully hugging the taller druid, placing his face right in between her cleavage.
"Balek, once a hound, always a hound." She thumped his forward and quietly murmured the spirit of the wolf spell, blue light engulfing the little dwarf.
"We should move on from here, love."
"Sure, after this..." Caitlinn turned back to the snarling dark elves. "Have you gentlemen ever heard of the druid spell...Upheaval?"
"No Cait, dont do it."
Caitlinn shooshed her little friend. "Have y'all?" The looks on their faces were testament to their knowledge of the 700 area effect damage spell though would cause a ripple in the earth, throwing them up and then back down onto the earth. "Behave, gentlemen. Behave."
And with that the two ran off into the steamy cliffs of Lava Storm, heading towards the dark lands of Nek Forest.
"WHY are WE still HERE!", said a very bored Konradd.
It had been 2 days since the companions had left Aramous and Konradd at the Butcherblock Mountain Druid Ring.
"Have patience my small blue friend. In time all things will be revealed to us.", Aramous chimed in.
Konradd looked back over his shoulder with a raised eyebrow Aramous's way.
"Well Mous', thanks for watching out for me, but it's time I take matters into my own hands." Konradd said as he pulled a cloudy potion out of his tinkered bag.
"Konradd wait! You must not leave!", shouted Aramous as he ran to where his elven companion was standing, but it was too late, Konradd's body was fading away even as Mous' reached him. He was returning to the last place his soul was bound. His home....
....Neriak
Malenko was growing impatient.
It had been two days since he left the companions in Felwithe and he was running out of time to rescue Wolenu. Axelle was due to return to Nektulos at any moment. Should that be allowed to happen, the results for Wolenu would be disastrous. At the moment, he was sitting in one of the inns in Eastern Commons watching young warriors slay unholy abominations at the haunted ruins. He couldn't help smiling as he thought of his younger days so long ago. At one time he had been out there, saving Norrath one purified soul at a time.
He was interrupted from his nostalgic reverie by the loud thump of a bow being set down on the table next to him. With a start, he looked up at his most trusted scout with an affectionate smirk. You know my dear, I'll never quite get used to you sneaking up on me like that.
The elf merely smiled as she removed her helm and shook out her fiery locks of red hair. Darling, if I were sneaking up on you you still wouldn't have a clue I was here, she quipped as she patted Malenko's cheek playfully.
Is that how you get away from your husband to come see me so often my beloved Kilila?
The ranger gave a gasp of mock indignity and pulled Malenko over the table towards her by the breastplate. I almost wish the scum would follow me here so you could kill him and we'd finally be able to be together.
Malenko laughed to himself, placed a kiss on the back of her hand, and gave one last glance out the window at the young adventurers. All in good time my dear, all in good time. . . Now, tell me what you know. Have there been any changes in troops or Wolenu's location?
Kilila gave a sigh, knowing that tender moments such as these came few and far between in their relationship. The troops and Wolenu are still in the same place. It's a skeleton crew with Axelle's batallion gone to Surefall. At the mention of the sacred forest, it was all she could do to surpress a shudder of terror at what she knew would soon befall it. Very little escaped the eyes of her love though, and she knew Malenko was just as concerned as she about the poor inhabitants of the glade.
Trying to ignore Kilila's inner torment, Malenko began to analyze out loud. So, Wolenu is still in a building a short ways north of the Combine platform in Nektulos with a skeleton crew of guards. It all seems too easy. There's GOT to be a catch.
You suspect a trap my love? Kilila questioned?
My dear, I always expect a trap. Why do you think I'm still alive? It's certainly not because of my combat abilities. Malenko paused at this, and appeared lost in thought for long moments. With a sudden movement he grabbed his great hammer and shield and strode out of the inn and into the Commons.
Wait, Kilila cried, sweeping her bow up and moving to follow Malenko out of the inn.. Where do you think you're going?
It is time, was all Malenko said as he set off purposefully towards the dark forest of Nektulos.
Yes indeed Caitlinn V'bran..despised by all of the tier'dal
My name, is Malicous Malcontent. I too, am a son of neriak. Born a collicky child it was evident from the start that my oh so irratable disposition, was merely a fascade i had created to annoy my elders. The truth was that i was so EVIL i was annoying to people who worshiped evil.I TORMENTED EVIL. This irratated my parents so much that they threw me out in the streets, returning later to kick me a few times they left me to fend for myself in the dark underworld of neriak. It was there i learned that a clever young elf will pick away at the rotting remains of the undead...cooked thoroughly and heavy on the currey it was all i need to grow and decide that the undead was where my loyalties lay.
To the undead of neriak specifically. Now Caitlinn V'bran has gone and made the a few of the living darkelves a little less living. They are not so happy about that. So now, i must declare war on caitlinn. She shall face a fury that norrath has never seen before. A fury that made loving parents forsake their name and their first born son. My torments shall be merciless and nonstop! Beware a bag of sarnak poop is waiting on your doorstep now! all it needs is a match and your dainty foot! BUT this is only the beginning! Soon i shall wake you at 4 am! sometimes it will be 2 am, you'll never know! MWHAHAHA. See that salt shaker? the top MAY come off..then again it may not. Paranoia shall rule your life!
Your only hope is to go on the famous talk forum in neriak...THE Jehrey Sp'ringar show. Admit your wrong doings! Realise you cannot marry your cousins ( dirty wood elves grrrr ) and reunite me with the parents who forsook me.
Do this or face that penalty most severe!
Love,
Hum… I was expecting a stronger opposition, Axelle sighed, watching form a distance the walls of Surefal Glade. She was using her newest toy, a telescope she bought to a gnome tinker on her latest trip to Ak’anon.
-What do you see? asked Dantael.
-See for yourself, she answered giving her the telescope.
Dantael took the object, not sure how to use it. She inspected it a few second before she bringing it to her right eye. Very impressive! she thought.
-That’s odd… it seems that there is no one home.
That was exactly what the two rogues that were sent in to scout the place reported. The town was abandoned. No elves, no half elves, no human and most importantly, no Sacred Bears.
Axelle approached Dantael’s ear and whispered, This means that they knew we were coming.
-This also means they knew that our hometown would be mostly defenseless.
-Oh shit! They both chorused.
Axelle turned her horse around and headed to Sergeant J’Narus. Sergeant! Get your men ready to move. We’re heading home.
He nodded and started to yell orders to the rest or the riders.
Dantael stayed back with a dozen riders. One of them pored oil on the ground and lighted it with a flint stone. They then all lighted a torch and got ready to charge the empty town. Dantael looked up Axelle for her approval. As soon as she nodded her back, Dantael yelled to her detachment, Charge!
Smoked started to rise in the sky as soon as they entered the city gates. One minutes after, flames outgrown the town’s wall. Three minutes later, the whole city was burning. But Dantael’s detachment was by then safely out of it, soon to rejoin the main regiment.
Axelle looked back one last time at Surefall Glade. She was pleased with the sighting. Soon enough, only ashen ruins will be standing.
Having returned recently from a trip through the wilds of Kunark, I was looking forward to a relaxing stay near the falls of Surefall Glade. Always a peacfull place, it was there I learned to fasion the mightly Trueshot Longbow, reknowned in all the world for its acuracy. Night was falling as I traveled throug the hills of Qeynos when my keen elven eyes spotted something out of the norm. Something WAY out of the norm. Horse tracks...lots of them. LIke, an army full. Quickly going on the alert I call softly to tunare and the form of the wolf so that I may travel more freely without drawing attention to myself. Not long after I come across the body of Holly Windstalker, her blades bloodied, her head cleaved clean off. I turn to the north again and see fires burning..."What the!" I say to myself and run with all my natural speed through these now inhospitible lands. Evading a group of Tier'dal thinking "what are they doing here?" I manage to come withing sight of the now burning Surefall Glade. Seeing the flames burn the beautiful glade my heart leaps to my throat in sadness and I howl to the moon, and in the distance it is echoed across the land...In the dim moonlight I see the batallion of Darkelves moving under the cover of darkness now looking at every shadow as if it might jump at them and indeed, it just might. Following them for a bit I see a group of stragglers. I may not beable to stop and army but. I return to my natural form and draw my bow. I kiss its fine velium stave and pray. Tunare, be with my this evening and in the darkened night Thunder echoes across the vale. I see the Elves now looking up at the sky as I nock an arrow. I can feel the energy coursing through the weapon. I sight down the arrow and I am one with the bow. BOOM! Thunder echoes and lightning crashes as I loose the first arrow, strking the first elf dead. BOOM! Lightning again flashes as I loose. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Thunder echose across the vale as my arrows fly. Dark Elf after Dark Elf falls to my deadly aim, never knowing whence the death came. Not caring how many saw me, my only goal was to kill as many as I could. I now see one on horseback, perhaps their leader, he hair flying in the wind wheel and turn but even as I take aim I feel my concentration wavering and my time here is done. I stand tall, the lightning crashing all around and Draw my blade. I point it at her and shout. "You have made an enemy this day you cannot comprehend!! Know the wrath of Tunare and feel its rightous vengence upon you!!" The lightning flashed brightly as it struck the ground near me throwing me backwards, tumbling down the hill. Shaking to clear the cobwebs I realize how stupid I just about was and again called upon the mystic powers, transforming myself into a wolf vanishing into the night. There is no honor in dying a needless death. I offer a small prayer of thanks to Tunare for letting me live through that moment, and even one to Karana for lending her his Thunder. "Maybe that last one was on purpose?" I think to myself as I run for the woodlans I know so well. In the vale below, nearly fifty dark elves lie dead, arrows portuding from their chests, burning hols as if lightning had struck them down.
As I run I begin to think again. "I must find Tanas, he will know what to do.". I bow my head low as I run whispering a prayer to the mother. "Tunare, to you I promise, this travesty will NOT go unpunished. The blood of our enemies shed to day is only the begining of what they will know of your rightious vengence!". I turn and run to the south and east, back toward the Karanas, to the halls of Scarlet...
Reverting to myself as I enter the Halls of Scarlet some three days later I nod to the sentries as they tend to their duties. "Has Tanas been in? Or even Erioch?" I say to them. "No sir, neither has been to the halls in over a full moon". "Damn" I mutter under my breath as I find myway to the Hall of the Rising Sun. Looking for and finding the guildstone, that which allows us to communicate to any of the guild no matter where they may be I lay my hand upon it, close my eyes and call out. "Tanas"....not hearing a reply I finish the sending. "Tanas, if you receive this, know that an army of Tier'Dal has burned the Surefall Glades to the ground. They are moving east even as I say this. I was barely able to stay ahead of their patrols to get here. What is going on? Send word that you have received this. IF I do not hear from you...I will assume the worst. Two days hence I move to shadow the army and learn what I may."...
Upon leaving I pen a note to both Maeslyn Trueshot of Kelethin, Tanas Moorlan and Erioch detailing what I saw at the Surefall Glade and what my plans are. I say that I send this letter to the Greater Faydark to warn the Rangers there of what is happening....
Quickly I head out to the hills surrounding the keep. I close my eyes and with my soul..I call out to a nearby Falcon. "Come to me my friend, all of our kind needs your help." Circling above the Falcon lights on my shoulder as I feed it a bit of jerky. I caress his chest a moment and whisper into his ear. "Take this message of warning to Maeslyn Trueshot in Kelethin with all haste my friend, its news is Dire indeed." The bird cocks its head at me as birds do but in it I see the understanding it has. Such is the way with all being of Nature, who call Tunare mother. It launches itself with a cry and I return to the keep to await, what I hope is positive response...
