Messing around with sig
Hi,
Am trying to learn more about photoshop, and had seen that awesome tut by Gilae about the text effects...so I submit for C/C my practice sig:

I think it looks good, Its readable and the blade looks nice. Everything fits together. I can't think of any crits at the moment or anything more constructive. Painkillers aren't the best for clear thinking. :)

I like your layout! The colors are cool and funky. I think the blade could stand out a little more, give it some shine and pop. The text effects look cool but it can be confusing as to what is your name and what is your guild name. Nightblade is your guild name, right? You have to pick what your focus is but I'd always try and make your name the more prominent one.
Overall it's pretty cool :thumbsup =D

Nightblade is the title given a rogue when she completes her epic 2.0 to earn that pretty dagger ;)
I was still debating putting my guild name in (crimson tempest). And I actually faded out the dagger image a little, will mess around to try to bring things into more balance.
Thanks so far :)

I would suggest perhaps a different color for the text, perhaps that red that's around the dagger. My eye was getting confused as to which was text and which was dagger.
Maybe you could try your name on the top of the sig and at the bottom, "Nightblade of Crimson Tempest." That would clear up any confusion on which is which? :)

I agree with Mae...you should shrink the size of the Nightblade down so it isn't the emphasis. You could even do it without the font effects so it's simple and readable, but clear that it's not your name. As an example:
This allows for the words to all be clearly there, but there's no question which are of emphasis.
The blade is your other focal point so it needs to stand out as well. Mae mentioned making it shine. This is done by running a white paint brush over it set to color dodge and at a low opacency and flow. Make sure in the layer window you have the dagger layer set to locked transparencies so you don't paint white all around the dagger.
Let me know if that last bit makes sense. It took me a while to get what people meant when they suggested that. It is, in case you're interested for further works, the way to get your armour shiny.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "locked transparencies" ? I'm not too good with mask mode and things like that, and I'd really like to have a working method to make things shiny...

THanks for all the suggestions so far :)
I haven't had a chance to work on this again, but will take a stab at it this weekend again.
I will post it again after :)

In the layers window at the top where it has the little squares you can checkmark to lock the layers, there is a box for locking the transparent portion of the layer. Doing this allows you to draw on JUST the image and not the area around that is transparent. SO if you're trying to 'shine up' armour or a weapon, you will only colour dodge the armour or weapon and not add white around the edges where the transparency is.

Yep, its a handy dandy function that is easily forgotten. Locking your outlines in line art is handy also...good thing Ry did on the one she drew that I'm playing around with, cause clicking back and forth to make selections several times I found myself on the wrong layer and it would take a sec of trying to figure out why it wasn't colouring before it hit me.. Oh, wrong layer again. *mutter* I also have a habit of undoing by using my history instead of the undo function or just erasing and so going back with it sometimes puts me on the wrong layer and sometimes I don't catch it. There is much cursing when this happens and I don't notice until after I've been shading on the main colour layer.
