The birth of Hummingbirds

My mom sent me this email:

The Birth of Two Hummingbirds

This is truly amazing. Be sure to click on NEXT PAGE at the bottom of
each page; there are 5 pages in all. A lady found a hummingbird nest and got
pictures all the way from the egg to leaving the nest. Took 24 days from
birth to flight. Because you'll probably never in your lifetime see this
again, enjoy; and please share.

That's neat! The size comparison shot at the end was helpful.

We rented a house a couple of years ago and there was a hummingbird feeder hanging outside the kitchen window. I didn't pay it any mind until I saw one buzz by one day, pause, and keep going. That's when I took down the feeder, cleaned it, filled it, and hung it back up.

I was rewarded with a buzz of 6 or so birds on a daily basis from then on. They are wonderfully fascinating little creatures. I could sit at my kitchen table and watch them for hours!

Yes, they really are that tiny. I would say their bodies are a touch larger than a mouse.

I used to work in a frame shop, and one day heard a thud on the front window. I went outside to check, and a hummingbird had flown into the glass and was laying out on the front sidewalk. I couldn't tell if he was alive or not, so I picked him up to move him just in case someone walked by. After about a minute, he opened his eyes and sat there in my palm very calmly, just kind of looking around and getting his bearings. Once he seemed alert, I held out my hand, he just sat there a little longer, and then flew away. He was so light, I could barely feel him in my hand. He was about 3 inches long not including the beak.

I have always been fascinated by them.
