Umm...
OK so at another art board, I offered to do trades with some people and someone asked me to do one for their character. I worked for several hours making them something and then they pm'ed me saying it wasn't "indicative of [the character's] character." Um, why not say "thanks" and move on? If someone spends time doing something for you, why would you say "thanks but I don't like it" ... ???
Pff.

Aye it was just a picture of the character sitting there, not doing anything, not with a fancy hairdo or anything, wearing a leather jerkin, and they said since their character "just discovered boys" that it didn't fit her personality. WTF?

Was this an exchange or a gift? If its a gift then that's not very nice, if its an exchange then I suspect they'd expect it to be treated like a comission. There are certainly better ways of saying something and I'm not sure I'd personally say something like that but I know I have done some trades with people who never use the sig or banner and I personally would have rathered them say.. this doesn't look like how I envisioned my character and let me change something so that it got used and appreciated rather than someone smiling and nodding and putting it away somewhere to collect dust on their computer.
Some people are never happy though so unless it was a comission I am not sure how many times I'd bother myself with it. I guess it depends on how picky or annoying they were being.
I had an avatar that I made for someone as a gift once that caused me problems. I went through their bio of their role play character, spent time making custom brushes with hebrew fonts for a background, pixel shaded a lot of the doll and did some of the best hair I had yet to do, made the necklace match the item from their mother that they carried around, made the outfit in the colour that was her favorite.. I was quite pleased with the doll and the av. She says thank you and puts it up.
A week later she comes back and says "I was talking to a friend of mine and we both really don't think my character would wear her hair that way." Really? Then why did you put it in your bio? I quoted her bio back to her, somewhat annoyed that it was done as a gift, that she waited a week to tell me, etc.. I took my own sweet time changing it..in fact, she stopped RPing soon after so I never got around to it.
I would have changed it in the end even though it annoyed me just because I said I'd make it for her and I'd do my best to make it something she was happy with. =/
Were they saying that the character you made in the picture too sexy? I'm kind of confused on what "just discovered boys" means exactly. They should be shy? Flirty, sexy or not sexy?

I saw the piece you were talking about.../shrug I dont know, I didnt see anything particularly wrong with how you did the layout, but that's why I like to show people WIP's. I once received a trade that was amazingly beautiful, but the exact opposite of what I told her that I wanted 'when she specifically asked me'. I was mildly disappointed but let it go. It sucks putting a lot of work into something, so even with a trade (not that I've done one in a million years and still owe one to jennafae =x ) I'd go out of my way to show them WIP's.

Well, it was in the trade forum, however she has not offered to make me anything in exchange (and hasn't - but I'm not reading her pm's any more so .. *shrug*) Although the title of my post was "Trade anyone?"
*shrug*
I guess if someone takes the time to make me something, I say "Thanks!" and either use it or don't. I've made things for people and they don't use it, but that doesn't bother me. They may have something they just like better.
I just feel like I wasted 3-4 hours of my time
*grumble*

Hey - I just wanted to add on here that your post said:

I've just recently been playing with DAZ and am still learning, I would love to have people to practice on.

So, if she got pissy and didn't like it, thats her problem. You did your best and did your part. It wasnt a commision you werent being paid -- it was a trade. A trade means you do your side, they do thiers. No one guarentees that you'll like what they do or visa versa!
I do alot of trades and I am sure some of my sigs arent what people would want. And some of the things I have gotten in return weren't "exactly" what I expected. But all of them took time to do and are appreciated, very much.
So.. Long story short. Tell her it was a trade. Not a commision if she doesn't like it, oh well. You did your best.

Don't look at it as a waste of time tho. Just look at it as time you spent learning, since I know that's what you were wanting to do anyway. Like I tell my daughter, just goooo with the flooooow! ;)

Thanks for the support :)
Would have been nice if she did her part of the trade though. Oh well! I think I'm dealing with a teenager which would explain her not saying things very politely or in a more "PC" manner.
