What you can do to help with Katrina

I for one feel so blessed, in the mist of this huge tragedy, I get to go to work today to a job I love, I get to hug my son in the hallways, and I have a frig stocked with food, roof over my head and clothes on my back and in my house in my closet. I know where my love is even if he's not with me, I know he is safe. These things we take forgranted everyday, daily gifts.

So many people are hurting right now, imgaine not knowing where you kids are, not being able to leave your house, not having a house, sewage water surrounding the city, people looting and killing each other.

It's almost too much to bare.

If you go to the www.redcross.org you can make a donation right now. Cash is what they need, its difficult to transport water and clothes but are still greatly appreciated. Money is just easier to transport and then it can be spent on what is needed and where.

Personally, my church is sending a crew over there tomorrow and they will go get 5-7 families and bring them here. The church owns 2 houses and figures they can fit 2-3 families in each, we are opening up the school to any orphans and kids of the familes to attend. Many families are eager to take people in their homes.

If you would like you can make a donation to my church for what it will cost to have the famillies over here, bills, food, clothes. I 'm not saying " Give me your money" but just if you had thought, what can I do? where can I give?, i think this is noble donation. You can send it to me through paypal at [email protected]

Please understand I am not taking money for myself, and I am not keeping any of it =D hopefully most you know me well enough to know how my heart is. It will be put to good use.

Thanks for your time,

Huggles--

If you can't donate cash, donate blood. Go to Give Life and look up a donation center near you. This disater will be a long time in healing, so you will be able to contribute mulitple times during it's aftermath.

Here in Houston there's a morning show (the one we listen to) who has been on the air since Tuesday at 6 am raising money with pay-requests. These guys are seriously exhausted and 'punch-drunk' but they don't want to stop, they feel so strongly about helping. Two of the three DJs moved here from New Orleans a little over a year ago and recently were syndicated and broadcast their Houston show there.. Now they haven't had big businesses rushing to give them checks, it's all been listeners from around Houston (and a few from around the US who listen to them online..) But this morning they have over $305,000 raised for the Red Cross so far. They haven't said when they'll be stopping but for their sake I hope it's at 10 CST when their show normally ends.. take a gander www.thebuzz.com

Tracking down missing

The Coast Guard and the American Red Cross are enabling people to post on the Internet information about loved ones missing or stranded because of Hurricane Katrina.

The Coast Guard is accepting requests on its Web page: http://homeport.uscg.mil

The Family Links Registry of the Red Cross can be accessed at on the Web at www.familylinks.icrc.org/katrina. The Red Cross also has established a hotline, 1-877-LOVED-1S (1-877-568-3317), that can be used to search or add information to the registry.

The company my company contracts to (they own apartments, tons of them) is housing 25 families that are going to arriving in Akron in about 2 months. The government already has these family jobs and is paying their first 3 months rent and the company is suppling another 3 months rent for free. My sister in law and I will be painting these 25 apartments and cleaning them free of charge. We will be working on the weekends (last weekend we painted 6 apartments) We took this weekend off because we needed to spend some time with our kids but from here on out we'll be working every weekend until they arrive. I also spoke with a woman who has a 4 month old little boy that is one of the families coming here. I'm giving her all my sons stuff from when he was a baby...crib, pack n play, stroller, highchair, even clothes..she was very excited and appreciative. I dont have tons of cash to donate (I did drop off a 50 dollar check to the Salvation Army right after it happened) but my point is these people are coming to cities all over the US and even if you dont have cash money to give there is always something you can do. I mean I guess if you add in what my wages would be I'm actually donating well over a couple grand but I couldnt go write a check for that amount. So in anyway, even if you think its not enough, is something!!
