Magic Street by Orson Scott Card

This is the latest by OSC. I'm going to tell you up front; the book refers -heavily- to a Midsummer Night's Dream. I have never read the play. Thus I felt just a little cheated and wonder how much I missed when reading Magic Street.

In any case, the characters were, as always, steller, and this is generally what makes OSC books worth reading for me . Check it out at the library imo.

As an interesting aside, apparently some covers of Magic Street portray a white man. I don't believe there is a single significant white character in the entire book. When asked what the deal was, OSC can be quoted as saying "I have nothing to say in defense of the cover." So I'm inclined to not blame him, and knowing a bit about the man I am willing to bet he was ticked about that *grins*.
