The Fog

I'm not sure how I feel about this. This is one of those movies my father let me watch growing up - he also let me watch Conan at 7 and Alien at 6. Ok well I snuck downstairs and watched Alien on my own and wow nightmares...anyway. The original 'The Fog' was made in 1980.

Stars big boobied Adrienne Barbeau and Jamie Lee Curtis with a grill that makes you sit back and say god damn. Thank god she got them fixed. Now, the original was outstanding. Basically it's a small coastal town that is haunted every 100 years by the wrecked ship of Lepers that were led astray and died on the rocks of this city, Antonia Bay. The whole deal was that the city founders, after being approached by their leader Blake, decided instead of letting the entire leper colony settle not 1 mile way, they'd let all these people die. It was, of course, a horribly foggy night.

It has 3 subplots. Jamie Lee Curtis being the hitchhiker who fucks this guy who picks her up. He's nice though. Then there's Jamie Lee Curtis' RL mom, Psycho's Janet Leigh who's coordinating the 100 year gala birthday of the town and her secretary. Then there's Stevie Wayne, the city's only radio station. She has a voice like sex on sunday and is up all by herself in the lighthouse by the bay.

They're all brought together by the obligatory Irishman, Father Mahoney. He happens to be the great grandson of one of the city founders who helped kill the leper colony. He wrote a journal, which he finds through mysterious means (of course) and reads this conspiracy to kill the lepers AND take their gold.

So everyone runs around in the movie and they all, save Stevie, at Father Mahoney's church where they realize that great grand pa Mahoney stole what was left of the gold (after establishing the city as a township) and of course melted it down into a cross.

Now, let's go back a couple hours and talk about the curse of Captain Blake. This leper leader Blake is a bad ass and none too happy. One by one, 5 people are killed, each representing a person of the 6 person council. Blake wants his shit back and they ride in on this deep dark Fog to get it.

All in all, it's a fantasticly cheesy movie. One I recommend. I've loved this movie since I was about...shit 8 or 9. The remake is making me sad since they cast the new TV's Superman as Jamie Lee Curtis' boyfriend (dude who picks her up in his truck) and imdb doesn't even have a pick of the girl playing Elizabeth. Anyway. I'm sad. I hope it's good.
