Firefly FAQ

Firefly FAQ

Please feel free to ask any Firefly questions here.

For fans of the show:
We’ll be doing a prequel to the series in this game, so this is before the first episode but after the crew gets together.

For Firefly newbies:
WTF! Go buy this series on DVD and see the movie.

Okay, okay, you don’t have to do that to play, but there are some things you should know.

The Premise
Ganked from Wiki:
The show is set in the year 2517. The Earth's resources were depleted long ago and the human race left for the farthest frontiers of outer space in multi-generational ships. The show takes its name from the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity that the central characters call home. The ship's tail section lights up during acceleration causing it to resemble a firefly. Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds and his partner Zoë are veteran "Browncoats" of the Unification War in which they attempted to resist the Alliance, an organization that succeeded in unifying all of the colonized planets under a single government. A central core of planets is now under Alliance control while the outlying planets resemble the 19th-century American West, with little government authority. Settlers and refugees on the outlying worlds enjoy relative freedom from the government, but lack the amenities the high-tech "core" civilizations offer. After the loss of the war, Mal bought the spaceship Serenity to scrape together a way of life for himself and his crew by making cargo runs and performing other tasks, legal or otherwise.

The Crew

The show follows the adventures of:

Mal, ship captain and war vet (he fought on the losing side)
Zoe, soldier and old war buddy of Mal
Wash, ship pilot and husband to Zoe (and comic relief)
Jayne, mercenary and gun lover (so long as he's getting paid)
Inara, Ship ambassador and the only "non criminal" crewmember
Kaylee, ship mechanic, genuis, and the sweetheart of the group

as they fly through the 'verse trying to make their fortunes and keep their freedom aboard Serenity, their ship.

WTF are Reavers?

The scenario actually covers a good chunk of what is known about Reavers. There is more info here (spoilers if you haven’t seen the movie):

http://www.fireflywiki.org/Firefly/Reavers

Some useful bits:

To the people of the Core Worlds, Reavers are a campfire tale and bedtime story; to the people of the Border Worlds and Colonies, Reavers are very real.
Reavers are believed by most of the 'verse to be men that went insane at the edge of space and became savage. They stared into the void beyond and became what they saw... nothing. They gave into their primal nature and all that was civilized was discarded.

Some victims of Reaver attacks are left alive and forced by Reavers to view the tortures they inflict on others. When this happens, the person's mind is so damaged by what they were shown, that the only way to cope with it is to begin to act as a Reaver does, eventually becoming one themselves.

Do we have to be human? Or even humanoid?

Cause I'm having serious brainstorm issues. :*(

There are no aliens in Firefly. In fact, it is probably the only sci-fi show without them.

Aliens are lame anyways. Take star trek for example, the biggest difference in being alien is having some random gunk on your face.

I have heard that this show is rather good. I was a big Farscape fan myself (until they started running out of material). I'm still unclear on the roleplay rules, I'm a quick study tho...

Just think of it as a western... in space. As far as roleplay rules, just be sneaky, dont give away your role, and try not to get lynched =)

LMAO yep and people wanted to lynch the little kid after the Bladerunner game with the teenage godfather.

Lesson from Bladerunner:

Kids are evil

Lesson from Haunted Mansion:

Some kids are more evil than others. Gilbert was the Godfather.
