Firefly Mafia Round 2 Mafia Kill

Serenity :: Inara’s Shuttle :: Lyn

Lyn knew she wasn’t supposed to be here. Then again, she wasn’t –supposed- to be anywhere, thanks to the Alliance. And it was so beautiful here, and warm, and it smelled much nicer than anywhere else on the ship. When one of the other passengers asked her to go tell the beautiful woman that the captain wanted her on the bridge, the glimpse she’d received of the shuttle proved too tempting to resist further exploration.

She bounced on the red sofa and pulled the blanket off the back, wrapping it around her shoulders. So soft! Everything here felt so pleasant to touch, and she wondered why the rest of the ship didn’t have such nice things. She hoped the pretty lady wouldn’t be angry when she came back, but Lyn didn’t see why she should have all these comforts to herself when the rest of the ship was so cold and bare. It wasn’t fair. Story of Lyn’s life, but even so. Maybe the pretty lady wanted a little girl, like her old mistress.

Lyn decided this was a good plan. She would take care of the pretty lady, and the pretty lady could take care of her and let her live in the shuttle.

There was a pot of steaming tea on the small serving table, and she helped herself to a cup. Thinking this might be the start of something good, she drank her tea slowly, curled up on the sofa. It was delicious, though she wished she had some cookies to go with it. Perhaps it was greedy to have another cup, but a girl in her situation learned to take what she could get. Being more comfortable than she had been in ages had the effect of making her awfully sleepy, and Lyn decided a short nap wouldn’t do any harm.

She barely managed to set the empty teacup on the edge of the table before she fell unconscious.

Serenity :: Bridge :: Mal, Wash, Inara

“Inara, if I had a need to speak with you I’d a come to your shuttle, you know that.”

Inara scowled. “All too well, Mal. So there’s nothing more you need from me?”

Mal leaned on Wash’s chair and gave Inara a boyish smirk. “Well now that you mention it…” Wash cleared his throat violently at that moment and pointed to something on the navigation screen before Mal could finish that thought. “Uh, don’t mind me, nothing important happening here...oh wait, the ship is about to explode, right.”

Inara snorted derisively and turned on her heels, walking off without another word. She had been just about to settle in for tea and a chat with one of the passengers when the little girl had knocked at the door. It was a shame they were interrupted; Inara was confident she had found someone trustworthy to give her some inside information on their passengers, let her know who to speak to, who to look up and perhaps investigate further. Together they had researched one suspicious passenger already.

She would have told Mal as much, in fact, but in spite of his never-ending ability to joke it looked like he was actually fairly busy with Wash, trying to go over the route to the space station. The owner of the space station, someone named Niska, didn’t exactly have the most savory reputation, and she wondered what their landing and repairs would end up costing them. In any case, she could always talk to Mal later. Alone. Not that she wanted to talk to Mal alone, of course.

Shaking off traitorous thoughts, she headed back for her shuttle.

Serenity :: Cargo Bay :: Mafia

“Did you see who walked out with her?”

“No, I didn’t. Do you think they suspect something?”

“Naw, I figure she was just ‘entertaining’ if you know what I mean.”

“Somehow I doubt that. Guess this plan is a wash in any case, between the unexpected guest and the little girl going into the shuttle. We’ll have to find another way to get to a terminal.”

“You’re sure neither of them drank the tea?”

“They wouldn’t have been walking around if they had. Knocks a body right out.”

Serenity :: Inara’s Shuttle :: Lyn, Inara

At first she had been annoyed upon seeing someone in her shuttle, but when Inara got a closer look at the sleeping form, she couldn’t help but soften a little. She leaned over and brushed away a strand of hair, reflecting on all of the innocents caught up in this mess.

The little girl felt rather cold.

Inara checked for a pulse before picking the girl up and running to the infirmary, shouting for help as she went.

“Guess it was a good thing she didn’t drink it.”

“Wasn’t ‘posed to kill her! Just knock her out!”

“It wasn’t our fault. She was just so little…didn’t look like she’d had a good meal in a while…wasn’t our fault she died.”

Marko was favoring his right side. “Damb he hits hard.” Its possible that Marko suffered a cracked a rib from that hit, even through the body armor. It was hard for him to admit that he could of been outclassed in a mano-e-mano fight with Seryn. Good thing he had back up. Once they got him on the ground, the pressing weight of sheer numbers was too much for even Seryn to handle.

Making his way to the infirmary was not a pleasant thing, as his pride was worse off then his side. The memory of the Mayor was also still fresh in his rather abstract memory.

“Make way.. hurry…”

Marko spun at Inara’s shout. She was running toward him, clutching the little waif girl.

“What happened?”

“It’s Lyn, she’s not breathing…help me…”

After sleeping a surprising nine hours, Layla pulls herself up. A bit stiff from her long slumber wrapped in the cargo netting between two crates, she stands and starts stretching, realizing that there is a bit of commotion around the infirmary again. Hopeful that perhaps Matron Smolly wasn't actually deceased and that people were jumping the gun yesterday...though that was an AWFUL lot of blood...she looks into the infirmary to see Lyn's bluish, tiny form on the table.

The world seems to shrink away from her, vanishing to a pinpoint in darkness.

Layla faints dead away.

Eliham noticed it was rather quiet in his area, he expected more people to still be hanging around the cargo bay where many were forced to sleep. Wandering with one hand on the wall of the ship, he headed until he heard more people. It was near the infirmary again unless he got turned around.

There was a thump nearby that sounded like a body hitting the floor. Alarmed, Eli knelt and felt around until he found it. His hands finally found a body... and oops! female. Moving his hand hastily away from the telling body part he clutched a shoulder lightly instead blushing a nice shade of red.

"I am terribly sorry! Are you alright?"

Expanding back from a tiny speck of space dust, Layla slowly became aware of her surroundings. How odd...she had gone to sleep in the netting, not on the floor. The ache in her head must have been from falling out of her nest. Shaking her head a bit, she realized that there was a hand upon her shoulder. Startled, she noticed Eli, stating groggily...

"Oh, Eli. Hello. What..."

As she recognized the tile on the floor of the infirmary for what it was, the memory flashed back to her. Someone had killed little Lyn. Turning away from Eli, she promptly threw up a little bit of bile from her empty stomach.

"Eli...someone has gone and killed Lyn. There's a murderer on this here boat with us, and they went and killed Lyn and the Matron too."

Pushing her back up to the wall, Layla wrapped her arms around her knees. She'd figure out this puzzle...after she got her head straightened out. It was just like those old mystery games she had read about from Earth-That-Was. How hard could it really be? Of course, stirring up too many folks would be a bad idea since they were already killing off children. She'd have to be careful.

Eli turned away from the strong scent of resurrected rations and moved back towards the wall.

"Lyn? Why would anyone want to kill a child? Are you sure?"

Maybe Layla was over reacting, maybe Lyn was merely hiding somewhere on the ship. His heart went out to the little girl she'd seen something horrible, someone should have slept next to her. No doubt she'd have nightmares about that kind of thing. They should have known she'd wander off and who knows where she was.

They were in the infirmary again though and there were people milling around everywhere. Lyn wasn't hiding, Eli had to face that fact. She was right here and they knew she was dead. He thought of crawling towards the beds, to make sure for himself but he remember ed Lyn's words about the mayor being bloody and he didn't think he could stomach feeling the small child mangled and cold. He turned to Layla instead and reached an arm out, finding her against the wall. Eliham scooted back and put an arm around her shoulder.

"There's nothing we can do but stay together and hope we make it a port of some kind."

What was he going to say..that it would be ok? It obviously wasn't and didn't seem likely to get any better in the future.

Since she knew where all the cleanup stuff was, Brenda got the mop and bucket to clean up all the vomit. She had never been good at keeping things neat and organized, but she was handy with a mess.

Hearing more commotion... again. Tony wandered out of his room to see what was going on.
To his dismay he had heard that someone was being rushed to the infirmary. Rushing down the hall on the way he heard that is was Lyn. Half expecting to see another bloody corpse his heart STILL sank when he saw her blue body on the table.

"What happened?" Tony demanded.
"All we know is that she ingested some type of toxic substance,” a passer by had said. Not taking his eyes, now filled with tears, from Lyn he did not even notice who has responded.
Tony though to himself. It had to poison of some type.. But who would give it to her??? and why kill her in the first place???? She was just a child. Biting back his emotions, trying not to show his disgust he thought more about it.
So now we have two killers.... one who likes to be brutal and another who likes to be subtle. Damn them... If I find out who was responsible, I plan beating the piss out them first, and then drag their sorry ass the to brig.

"If we make it to port. Those alarms yesterday...don't they mean somethin's wrong on the ship? Now folks are killin' their own townies...I can kinda see the motivation for the mayor if the person wanted to be in charge, but why kill a little girl?"

Sighing, she continued. "Well, I suppose we'll have to do the best we can with the situation at hand. Can't bring back the dead, and can't get a ship into port any faster. Well, at least I can't."

Looking up at the person mopping, Layla smiled weakly. "Sorry. I can clean that up if you like. My mess, after all."

Judas emerged from his quarters.Walking with all the speed a man with nearly useless legs could propell himself. He heard the commotion and seen the child lying there dead. Immediatly he shook his head at this senseless loss of life.At least thats what he made it look like. Honestly he could care less about any of them, his only concern was that he made it to his destination, and off this blasted ship. But hey, he was here and he was supposedly a man of the cloth.

He walked up to the dead child. and looked over all of them with a delicate look that he was about to break into a fit of tears. He kneeled down over the girl and began to perform the last rites for this unfortunate child.
