ABSOLUT!
I get to brainstorm an advertising campaign for any company of my choosing for class this week.
I WANT TO DO ABSOLUT VODKA!
Why? It's my favorite advertising campaign of all time and I've always wanted to design an absolut ad. I have a collection of Absolut ads. I have like 150 of them.
So help me decide what I should make an Absolut ad for. I thought about doing an Absolut Gamer ad, but then I thought people might think I was promoting drunken gaming ... I mean, I drink when I game sometimes, I'm sure other people do, too. But seeing as I've never seen an alcohol ad in a gaming magazine before, I'm not sure how realistic that is.
What do you think?
What else would make a cool and hip Absolut ad?

I would guess the reason you have never seen a liquor add in a gamer magazine is because the average gamer is not the legal age.
Any triad can attest to my lushness. Being in the raids I was leading on friday nights must have been entertaining to the guild.

You think so? I don't. I think there are more adult gamers than there are kid gamers. There are certainly more Teen and Mature rated games nowadays than there are 'E' for Everyone rated games. I'm also basing this opinion on the observations of myself and my husband having worked as managers in game stores, 6 years between the 2 of us.
Pair the increasing cost of games and consoles along with the increasing dificulty level and maturity of games and you have an industry geared for adults more and more.
Back to the topic at hand ... Anyone have any good ideas for an Absolut ad? :)

Looks like console gamers are younger while PC gamers are older.
How valid the data is I have no idea but its quoated http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2004-05-12-gamer-demographics_x.htm

As far as I know, the highest rating is M17, which is 4 years shy of the US drinking age... That's a big chunk of gamers mature enough to handle graphic content, but not legally old enough to drink.
Doesn't really matter though. I've seen enough Absolut ads to know they transcend the product being advertised. It's a style of its own with countless parodies that have nothing to do with vodka. For instant recognition, all you need is the centered bottle as the focal point and the Absolut [...] slogan flush bottom. The rest lies in your creative instinct.
You could start off by tracing the outline of the bottle with the pen tool. I typically do this in Illustrator and export the eps file in Photoshop, but tracing directly in Photoshop works too. A little less flexible, but a bottle outline is fairly easy to pull off. From there, you can take a screenshot from the game (or a montage of screenshots), and paste it "into" the bottle's contour.
What kind of game do you want to promote anyways? Best to determine that first in the brainstorming process. Gives you something tangible to work with and hopefully will inspire you for the slogan (ie Absolut Mayhem). Then you should be better able to envision what graphical elements fit with the campaign.
