Winter Fun!!!

Ah the joys of living in the Hill Country. I live in one of the most densely hilled areas in the country not ti mention that I'm in Texas, add all of those things together and you have school closings when it ices.

We had just under an inch of accumulated ice, sleet and snow, and because the buses can't get up the hill from the bus barn, schools are closed.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big giant whimp and will not drive if it even threatens to ice. I nearly shit myself coming home from Church last night, because my defroster couldn't keep up with the ice forming on my windshield. So I would not have gotten out today reguardless.

But that still leaves me with a seven year old in my house I have to entertain, and keep her and her little sister from killing each other.

WEEE!

Winter fun means winter colds. I am sick. Again. Stupid weather got WARM, wtf? I went from 0 to negative degrees up to 40? In december? I'm so sick. =/

Roz, you need to take vitamin C on a daily basis. I do. I never get sick.

TONS of vitamin C...my life's blood in the winter, and no...never get sick! :D

Take Ester C. I never get sick either. Well other than sinus infections but I have chronic sinusitis and have had a couple of surgeries that have not fixed the problem. Have'nt had the flu or a cold in a very long time. I also have added that new Danactive drink to my diet to see if it helps with my sinuses. Too soon to know if its working.

Throw the children in the snow. Best way to keep them entertained. Ice means ice skating. I think it's sad that so many kids don't know how to ice skate or don't own a tobaggan or have never packed up a slide with snow and slid down it in snow pants. Snow pants are the best. I miss being 7. I once met a guy who at 20 years old had never seen snow. I made him stand outside as the snow came down and I swear he squealed with glee like a kid.

I had to tell my texan friend how to snow drive today because we're about to get 6 inches. I wish that meant they were going to close anything down tomorrow but we do not fear snow here. I LOVE snow if I'm not at work.

Enjoy your snow day (or ice day as the case may be) Kay :)

I wish I could throw them out in it, but we live in an apartment with no place to play and I don't drive in this stuff so I can't take them anyplace. We just had a nap and in a few minutes we'll be making cookies.

As an aside, I didn't see real snow until I was 16

Well our kiddo doesn't really get to play outside during the week, because, well....it's dark when she gets home. On the weekends though, if the neighbor kids are home she can, until it hits about 0, then she can only play outside for like 10-15 minutes tops.

Oh, and I recall when I told Roz that our daughter would be playing outside. Last year, first winter, she was telling me that she wouldn't let her go outside because it was cold. That changed really quick I tell you.

I remember being bundled up and tossed out doors all the time when I was a kid. We used to wait until the snow plow had pushed all the snow into a huge heap at one end of the street and then we'd make HUGE ass snow forts and cover them with water so that they'd ice over and be IMPENETRABLE!!! They'd also have slides on them so we could "escape" if our adversarys became too powerful and we had hidden stashes for snow balls and holes at the top of the fort so we could toss out snowballs. My brother and I were like snow commandos!

This morning after the snow storm Mike dropped me off at the train station. The parking lot had been plowed during the night and there were huge mountains of snow in different corners of the lot. I almost made Mike stop the car so I could start digging!

I didn't take any pictures last night but I'll take some tonight :) I don't think it'll all melt by the end of day.

Texas people are such whimps about the cold (myself included). It's 13 degrees outside and the entire city shuts down because no one wants to go outside, or knows how to drive on the ice.

I just saw on tv that a plane slid off the runway and plowed into traffic in Chicago? A poor kiddo was killed =/
Gilae 20 years ago
Yeah, I just posted about it on the other thread. It was all over the news...the plane is still sitting on the road too. They've closed off streets. Pregnant me started crying last night about the poor baby that died :( Some poor woman lost her son last night in a really freak accident. Who expects to see a 737 on a common road?
