Walking in a Winter Wonderland::Day One Lynch

::Hogwarts Courtyard::Mob and Leroy Mrsic:: Day One Lynch

Leroy hugged his books tightly to his chest as he exited the large main doors of the school and headed out to find some place quiet to study. Normally people would go to the library but when you were a little first year that got picked on as much as Leroy did then even a nice quiet place like that wasn't safe.

It was cold out and he staggered a bit, pushing against the wind. Maybe he could make it to the herbology tool shed and hide in there with his wand and books in order to study and practice. It wouldn't be comfortable but that made it less likely that he would be found.

That is if he could manage to make it there...

*Splat!*

The snowball nearly spun the skinny little Ravenclaw around where he stood. Leroy trudged silently onwards hoping they were having just a bit of fun and would leave him alone after he managed to get out of range; this was too much to hope for of course.

"Hey freak! Where ya goin?"

"Oh look its the little potions golden boy...going to go collect pond scum for extra credit?"

"He should look in that moldy old satchel of his... I swear something died in that thing!"

*Splat!*

"Don't ignore us, you little runt!"

"Thinks he's better than everyone else. "

"Teacher's Pet"

*Splat!*

The snowballs were hitting him continuously now and Leroy could hardly see where he was going in the blur of white that was coming towards him. He hoped they didn't break any of the glass vials in his satchel, while the potions weren't anything spectacular yet, he'd worked hard on them.

That was when the snow ball with the rock in it hit him in the head.

It was like watching a leaf fall to the ground in an autumn breeze to those that had been watching and tossing their icy ammunition at the strange little Mrsic boy. He was so tiny that he just seemed to crumple in slow motion, making not a sound and barely an impression in the snow.

So caught up in throwing snowballs at their target, quite a few people continued to throw more before they noticed he wasn't moving.

"He's probably faking it..." a voice said, sounding not at all certain.

"Yeah, such a baby."

But the snowballs stopped flying and they slowly made their way over to the place were the little first year fell. He could hardly be seen under all the snow piled on top of him.. only a cold hand stuck out of the mound of white and it was rapidly turning an eerie shade of lifeless blue.

No one said a word but by silent consent the mob scattered in various directions.

Finally Leroy was left alone.

Looking out the window as he proceeded toward the Arithmancy classroom, he saw some children having...well, a very one-sided snowball fight. Children could be so cruel. He'd been lucky enough to avoid most of that through his years at Hogwarts. Hm...the victim was a fellow Ravenclaw. Unfortunate.

As the student fell to the ground, Egon smiled. The child seemed to be playing possum now. Clever lad. It might even work. Confident that things would turn out acceptably and that there would be a new story of Ravenclaw cleverness circulating the common room this evening, Egon strode on.

"Where is that little prissy sas of a twit?" Rorri Rosethorne whispered in a most displeasing tune as she waited for him at where she had told him to meet her. The little sas of a boy from Ravenclaw had wanted to fit in, he had wanted to become someone important so he had latched on to her.

Her of all people; she could see it in his eyes, that first crush, the feverish desire a little boy felt when he couldn't understand it; he'd practically followed her everywhere when she wasn't in class or in Slitherin House.

He even called her big sister once in front of someone whom she had been finalizing a deal of the tender kind with of all things!

Well...she'd turned him purple for a day cause of that!

Rorri didn't have any brothers, only older sisters, and now she knew why; most likely her older sisters would have snuffed the little cretin if one had come along!

After a semester of being pestered and bothered she had finally relented and allowed Leroy to do 'errands' for her. In this case it was a payment run, though of course being so little Leroy had no idea what the 'payment' was for.

Still, he got a small share, a silver for his own to spend when there was the occasional holiday to town, and it shut him up and seemed to keep him content and away from constantly following her.

Figures that Leroy would be the one boy in the school she had no need to use her charms on!

Still though, he was rarely ever late, usually calling out her name as he came running with that oddly smelly sachel of his.

Mudbloods! Rorri swore, where is that boy at?

Of course...she couldn't have known the simple truth...not yet at least.
