Can't Take It - a poem

I can't take the yesses anymore
Yes mom this, yes mom that
I can't handle the holler score
And how it turns into a spat

Every little project you want to do
Turns into a battle 'twixt me and you
I try to show you what to do right
But all you do is yell and fight

Projects to enhance hearth and home
Whether water, wood, light or gas
You conjure changes from published tome
Not getting it I feel like an ass

"Do it this way" you yell in my ear
It's wrong, I tell you, dangerous too
But that's not what you want to hear
"I'll do it alone, go away, fuck you"

I try to help, make myself understood
Working on fans, heat, or rangetop hood
Your ideas, no logical sense they make
As time and money we continue to waste.

You yell "My way this, my way that"
You've angered Dad and scared the cat
All the while you scream and shout
Gives me more reason to want to move out.
