Droggen....help!

Hey,

I'm hoping you can answer this question. Why do sports stores not sell bowling balls? Is there a secret organization that says only pro shops can sell them? I've been to every sport store around me, including..but not limited to Dicks, Sports Authority, Academy Sports, Target, Wal-Mart....Nothing. We've signed the kiddo up for a league at the local bowling ally with Steph's - dad's - girlfriend's kids. (wow that was difficult to type) Anyway we wanted to get him a 6 pound ball...but can't find one. Is there a reliable online place to buy from? Looking for something cheap...around $30.00. I don't know how long he will play so I don't want to spend a lot of money at first. (The ally's orange balls are not very cool.)

I won mine from the bowling alley where Mike took me and our nephews too. It's blue and it has a rhino on it. It's fitted for my hand too =D /loves her bowling ball

I've only seen them at the bowling alleys, but when my daughter played league I used to see some really reasonable ones there, especially for the kids. I think the reason they may limit them to the pro shops might be because they have the equipment to drill them there...

Holy ass hat im sorry i didn't see this post.

Okay to answer your first question. The reason that ProShops majority of the time are the only places that carry bowling equpiment is becasue you have to be apart of the distribution lists from the bowling companies to recieve the equpiment or the local distribution lists. Ebonite and some of the no name bowling companies used to have their equpiment stocked in places like sports authority and what not, but a problem arised from peoples equpiemnt not having the correct life span (IE cracking inbetween the fingers, around the thumbholes) Places like sports authority 90% of the time do not have a USBC (united States bowling congress) certified ball driller.

As for sites to visit for the kiddos ball. I own a proshop and don't really condon to internet shopping (cuz it steals business from me /cry) but here are three great sites that i personally have used in the past before opening my shop.

www.buddiesproshop.com
www.blockbusterbowling.com
www.bowlersparadise.com

I suggest something along the lines of a polyester ball. for example, Ebonite Maxim, Columbia White dot, Brunswick Target Zone, Vis-aball (character balls).

NOW don't for get that the local proshop will probably charge you for drilling because he is not earning your business in the purchasing of the ball. So make sure to weigh your options, a little more expensive ball at the proshop with cheaper drilling MIGHT be a better option then buying an internet ball paying shipping and full charge drill.

as an example, customers who come into my shop who are getting a more advanced (fingertip drill, including a Mass Bias and what not) is charged $40.00 and a conventional drill runs $25.00. the kiddo will be getting a conventional drill. So drilling may or may not be cheaper but should be for a youth bowler.

Hope the kiddo enjoys the "sport" (most will never call it that) i love bowling and have made it appart of my life, and hopefully will become my career when the shop ca run its self and i don't ahve to be in as often. Its a great avanue for physical exercise (with out sweat and dirt).

If she does continue on make sure its something that SHE wants to do and not something she won't say sucks. It can be fun and also boring as hell sometimes.

Bowling makes my knees dislocate. :(

Of course lots of things do that but bowling seems to do that especially well.

Thank you for the reply Droggen! I appreciate it. It turns out that Steph's dad may buy the bowling ball for Jeremy at the Pro Shop. I will relay the info to all involved. :) You've explained a lot of what I didn't understand. Thanks again!!!

hummm4. 6lbs might still be a little too heavy but get it drilled anyway if its too heavy he can use two hands and when hes a little older can "plug" and redrill the ball to fit his hand again if its too small.,
Rikr 20 years ago
He's definately 2 handing the ball, but...once he gets the hang of it, he should be able to use the holes. He's only been a couple times so far and with the bumpers he bowls avg in the 70's range. :)
