People really love their priests.
Come by Tichondrius horde side next time you're bored. We'd love to see you :)
Everybody loves you when you're a priest
Sunday night I logged onto my usual server, only to get stuck in a 800 person queue. I said "fuck this" and logged onto one of the "new" PvE servers. I made a male night elf priest.
Since then, I have had 13 people tell me "I'm adding you to friends list!". That's more in three days than in Jinheim's entire 50 days /played.
This is either because I'm playing pve alliance as opposed to my usual pvp horde, or else people just really love their priests.

Yeah, sometimes we have waiting lists to get into the raid. If you happen to be a priest (like me) that waiting list doesn't matter, as typicaly you are in next, regardless.

I used to enjoy jumping into Time ahead of people who were waiting for hours. =D

Teach me how to spec a priest for leveling up, please.
I am mostly doing quests by myself, but I do like to join up for instances.
I'm currently level 23. I went straight for mind flay, and then I was torn between putting my next points into the disc tree to get improved PW:S or just continuing down the shadow tree straight for shadowform. I did the PW:S on my last priest (got it to 34) and decided to try going full shadow this time.
Input?

I'd take the quick stop at PW:S imo, since it will help you in both instances and soloing.
I love my priest, although I have to admit it gets kinda boring hitting 6 over and over and begging someone to keep track of heals so I can have some sense of achievement.
I went shadow/disc all the way up to 59, once I hit 60 I went holy. Unless you're going to do instances ALL the time, that would be my suggestion (although I'm sure there are other opinions).

Today, I woke up at 5 in the morning for some reason, so I logged on my priest to solo for a bit.
As soon as I logged in, I have THREE tells before I even finished loading, asking me what I was up to. More tells quickly ensued. About half the people are cool and just want to chat or are inviting me to something that I might actually want to go to, but the other half are people that seem to think that since we grouped once, I am now their best friend and want to help them with everything. Listen, buddies, I know we worked well together when we were both level 15, but now you're level 17 and I'm 23, and I really don't want to come do auberdine quests with you. Sorry.
I also made the mistake of letting slip that I have two level 60's, and now people assume that I know everything there is to know about WoW. They are correct, but damn it is annoying. Question after question after question NONSTOP. I definately don't mind a few, but this is just silly.
This one dwarf warrior has been talking to me about onehanded axes and how much he likes them for the last half hour. I don't have the heart to tell him he should rethink his weapon choice, because he can't hold aggro over my wand.
We did deadmines the other ngiht and Smite dropped his blue twohanded hammer. That thing OWNS, probably the best weapon in the game at this level. I'm like "grats warrior" (i had been made groupleader at this point), and he's like "Naw, I just use axes", so the level 16 paladin got it (can't even equip it yet). W-T-F.

You want to get vampiric embrace as soon as possible. Its really really hot. With that and spirit tap you can pretty much keep on killing for a long ass time.
I didn't get improved pw:s till my late 50s, so its not detrimental whatsoever to get it. I went straight for shadowform. Since getting improved pw:s takes 8 talents, I would recommend delaying it. You do a fuckton more damage with shadow weaving and darkness. Silence, improved fear and blackout are really only good in pvp. Silence has occasional usage (like stopping a mob from healing) and blackout is handy for taking slightly less mob damage (but its too rare for my taste).
Shadowreach might just be better to grab, since you can start nuking at a longer range (thus more damage to them, and less to you). Harmann, the rank 14 shadowpriest told me it was a given to take it for pvp. (I've never taken it though)
When you get shadowform, you can vamp embrace your health back, and barring that, can bandage up whatever your missing (which goes well right after a kill, so you get full benefit of spirit tap)

Thanks elvaiz. Will you still be acceptable in groups w/ this spec? I'm starting to enjoy doing instances quite a bit.

ahahahaha acceptable in groups?
The only reason why priests respec at 60 to disc / holy (or holy / disc) is for a few things.
Aggro reduction (handy for horde priests, put pretty much needed)
Healing talents (allows you to use lower rank heals to heal for as much as the higher one... which ultimatly saves mana)
Divine spirit (don't laugh =/)
Spirit of redemption (basicly a "gratz you killed a priest")
Larger mana pool (10%)
instant spell cast cost reduction (10%)
Meditation (15% mana regen while casting)
The bottom line is, these talents are here so that in the controlled enviroment of a raid situation, you are in combat until the mob dies. By pushing your mana pool further, you can heal more dps / tanks thus helping your raid out.
Pre 60 instances however, the boss fights are not marathons. Unless you go in with gimps, you will win all the fights on the first attempt with no problems (unlike BWL, MC, ZG). You won't have to bring a fuckton of consumables to kill VC for example (unlike Chrommagus where I'm sporting a hefty array of consumables and buffed to the gills with mana regen). Furthermore the actaul benefit of a holy / disc spec over a shadow spec is negligable at this level. (at 10% increase in the healing power of a 300 point heal is 330) Infact if you spec anything but shadow you are pretty much an idiot, or a boxed bot.
Being shadow will allow you to dps (since your group isn't going to be needing that many heals, and at the very least the idiotidans will sometimes heal themselves). Vampiric embrace also heals everyone in your group, so you can dot and mindflay health back for your group if needed. When i leveled up, noone ever refused a shadow priest. Priests are rare as it is, and they'd be fucking dumb to refuse.
Holy /disc also turns you into a gimp. Its fustrating for me to try and solo anything (let alone do anything but heal in pvp, which gets you killed fast anyways) as 31 disc/ 20 holy as I put out like 80 dps. Sure I can heal for a ton, I just can't farm worth shit. This would be pretty much the case if you attempted to level in any spec but shadow. While yes you can solo, and yes you could level to 60 as a holy priest, you would have tripled your leveling time to 60. I'm sure you have better things to do.

The only mob I EVER had trouble having enough mana for was endboss in Ulda. But like Elvaiz said, a big contributor was average groupmates.

If your in green gear trying to 5 man the quests in strath a strict shadow build can lead to running out of mana trying to heal your group but if your 10 manning or if your group is mostly in blues or the class set theres no real reason to not spec full shadow til shadowform then put the rest in discipline.
