This came to mind after reading Anulien's post in the favorite books thread.

I read this to have something to talk about with my brother in law, and it certainly led to interesting discussions (latex---->women's movement? etc.) Very thought provoking with enjoyable writing (the author, I'm told, has a show on PBS).
