The trick is to not pose the figure before you put the hair and clothes on. The hair should parent itself to the head but you HAVE to make sure you have Figure 1/BODY selected when you want to move the body. If you have the hair selected, it'll just move that.
So, hair before pose, select figure 1 before pose.
Don't Laugh...but...
Can someone tell me...
When I have a figure up, and add hair...how do I move the hair to fit the head?
I've no experience with this at all (Poser5) and am trying to learn, but it's taken me two installs, and hours of messing with just to get the files in the right places...Now I've been trying to find tutorials on how to operate this program, from the very basics, and haven't had any luck. So...until I do find something, is there an easy answer to just the one question above?

Ohhh...silly me...I was looking at it like a doll...with the figure first then adding everything to that. Thanks! Now I want to leave work and go home to play :P

Actually,if it's like P6, you *can* put the hair on whenever really. It depends on what type of hair you're using, too. If you're using conforming hair, which will be listed in your figures folder, just double click it and let it go in the scene. Then just conform to> your figure. Now if you're using hair directly from the hair folder, make sure you have the head of your figure selected, double click the hair, and it should fall into place if it is hair meant for that figure. If it isn't, or is used for multiple figure types, you may have to go into your pose folder and find a "Fit to" pose for your particular figure. Hopefully this helps ya, and keep in mind it all depends on whether or not 5 is the same as 6 as far as the hair goes. If not, omgs ditch it and get 6! *snickers*
Seriously, I learned on Daz|Studio and went straight to 6 without crying to Vex too much. I know you also mentioned having memory issues before, Shay, so maybe learning with D|S would help in that area for you too. Nothing is more frustrating than actually getting everything set up the way you want, then realizing you don't have the memory to render it or heaven forbid, the whole thing just crashes on ya.
Good luck hon!

It's almost always just easier to dress the model before posing it and checking to see whatever piece you're putting on needs to be conformed to figure 1. Do that and you're cool.

Thanks guys. I think I have a download somewhere for Daz Studio, maybe I'll give that a try too. It all sounds easy when I read it here, but getting home and then figuring it out in the program can be 190 degrees. But at least I've got some ideas on what to try.
As for the memory, so far the few times I've rendered, it hasn't been bad...but I'm only working with bare bones so far. Believe me, if waiting for it to render was the biggest problem, I'd not be worried. ;)
