It does suck...and I agree with you; however, some people don't get sick time, and can't afford to miss work...
Gotta be a better way.
I *hate*...
People who come to work sick. Especially when they say they did just so they can share their germs with everyone else. If you're sniffling, sneezing, coughing, etc.. STAY THE FUCK HOME. So now I'm sick. And, since the boss managed to come in while she was sick (see above person who made stupid ass comment) it will look bad if *I* stay home because I'm sick. argh! Dumb ass people... a cold is one thing for a normal person to catch but with my asthma it always becomes bronchitis or worse.. fucking insensitive pricks. Moral of this rant... stay home to be considerate of others and keep your sick ass germs to yourself.
I'm done bitching I guess.

I come to work sick so others can feel my pain.
Whats the point of being sick if you can't spread it to others?

See that's the type of attitude that pisses me off, seriously. It's disrespectful of your co-workers. What if someone had health issues and you didn't know? It's just irresponsible..

Ok, well its flu/cold season, and the following applies to our viral friends (not bacteria like Strep throat)
The most contagious a person is with a viral infection is about 8-24 hours before the onset of symptoms. This is because the symptoms (runny nose, fever, headache) are all effects of your immune system fighting back the diesease. Infact, in most viral infections, you are not contagious after about 16-24 hours of symptoms. Let me explain the science behind this.
Step 1.) You get infected.
Step 2.) The friendly little bugger replicates all over inside your body (YEAH!)
Step 3.) Your contagious.
Step 4.) Immune systems realizes: Hey there's a virus here
Step 5.) Immune system starts to ramp up a response. You start feeling bad. Still contagious.
Step 6.) Immune system response is full blown. Viral load pummets. You feel like total crap. But are no longer contagious.
Step 7.) Immune system still going full steam, virus is eliminated, you still feel like crap for another day.
Step 8.) Immune system cools down. You feel normal.
So basically, those people who come in are usually mildly contagious at that time, and it was the day before that they were really contagious. That is how viruses are able to spread so easily. Simply because people are spreading them before they know they are sick. After they are sick, even if they do come to work, people avoid them, and the likely hood that the virus will spread is significantly diminshed.
All in all, I was joking up above, in part because once I know I am sick, I can't really spread it, but before I knew I was sick, I was spreading it without knowing it.
Fun stuff huh?
And yes, I know there are some excpetions to the ruile above, like small pox, herpes viruses, and a few other buggers, but I am primarly talking about the winter/seasonal viruses that everyone gets.
And remember, the person you talk to today, could be giving you a cold, even though they appear perfectly normal.....MUHUHUHHUHUAUHUHAUHAUHUA!
Cheers!

I know how the stuff travels, I'm just saying when you KNOW you're sick why compound the chances of someone else around getting it..? Like today, I stayed home. I would have gone home yesterday the minute I started feeling bad but one girl called in sick and there's only 3 of us in the front office so I didn't want to leave my boss there alone. She'd already had it and I figured she could suffer my irritability from it since she helped get me sick (X sick at home and her at work.. I was doomed). Anyone else who came into my office was waved away and told to set things down by the door. Partially for them and partially so they'd leave me the fuck alone.
Oh and thankies Dia, luvs ya too =)

My work doesn't give a shit if you are sick or not. Last week, a guy flipped his car on the way to work and my supervisor was like "Is he still coming in to work?" He flipped his fucking car!! Another guy had a pregnant fiance who called him at like 11:30 pm and had to be sent to the hospital cause she thought she was going into labor and she was only like 6 months and they told him he had to come back when he was done.
Fuck, I can't wait until I graduate and find a real job.

I hated working for places like that. My girl called and said she had to take her grandfather to the hospital for tests and it was last minute, she asked if I wanted her to come in still.
'Nah, I'll probably leave early anyway. See you tomorrow!'
I'm the best boss ever. =D

I've only called in sick once. Im a temporary worker for the City of Buffalo, and as a temp worker they dont pay you for the day and you also run the chance of getting fired. One time last winter I had had a horrible cold and managed to walk around twelve miles on my route in cerca 0 degree temperatures. Was coughin stuff up all day, man was I glad when that day was over. The only time I've called in was because I was physically unable to leave the house... <3 the flu =P.
