My first step would be to open the case and vaccuum all the dust out. If the video card is overheating, clearing the dust will help.

So a couple months ago or whatever my comp died...this is what its doing:
You can hear the fans start to run when u turn it on but nothing after that..monitor just says no signal. No more sounds, even like its trying to boot up
Then today I'm on my husbands comp and I'm literally not doing anything on it. I'm sitting there with Yahoo yellow pages up (i was looking an address earlier) and AIM running. I was on the phone and i look up and the computer was off, it just shut down. Now when i try to start it it does the same exact thing that my old comp is doing. Fans run and the temp lights up and the fans lights come on and the lights on the front of it but then no other sounds besides the fans running. Monitor says no signal one time and even the mouse lights dont light up. I need to fix it or find something out before the hubby gets home from outta town on business, he's gonna think i did something to it and kill me, he says i break all comps. I swear I was not even touching it when it just shut down.

Check the CPU fan, make sure its spinning. If the CPU is over heating, most CPU's have an internal trigger which shut them off immediately. Things which cause your CPU to over heat.
1.) Fans not working
2.) Poor contact with heatsink (get some thermal grease and some rubbing alcohol).
The other problem, is your power supply could be over heating. Check its fan, and air flow.
Post back if its either of these. Or, if you can't post cuz your computer is down, please mail your response to the board, and someone will post it.

my friend told me how to fix it last night...he told me to unplug it and let it sit awhile then plug it back in and it would start up. I thought he was fucking nuts and wasnt even going to do it but it WORKED!!! I'm going to be pissed if thats all thats been wrong with my comp for 2 months. I cant try it out cuz the hubby took the ram outta it and I'm not sure what he did with it. I guess its some kind of virus or something and my friend told me to update my virus scanner or whatever.
BTW, Sergon, Joeys down in your old stomping grounds this week...West Palm Beach. He is actually loving it there so I'm sure he'll be wanting to transfer when he gets back.

New Power supplies. I have had a couple go bad and do the exact same thing as your describing.
