*Bounce : Fidget*

i'm am sooo EXCITED! after waiting and needing and wanting Hearing Aids for the past few yers I'm finally getting them TODAY!!

I'll finally be able to hear! well hear better, its not like i'm totally deaf... but still, I'll be able to have conversations with people without having to ask them to repeat themselves several times!
this is a huge deal for me and I just had to tell someone.. I'm barely able to sit still.. (more so than normal)

I can sympathize with you X. I developed a degenerative ear condition 10 years ago called meniere's disease. I had a sinus infection that wound up in my ears and it really effed them up. It tore up my inner ear. Im 60 percent deaf now. That I can deal with but the other things that come along with the condition are hell. Vertigo......... and Tinitus....... (constant ringing n the ears). This causes claustrophobia big time when it flares up badly.

It is dibilitating at times to the point I cant get off the couch. I have learned to deal with it to some extent. The only possible fix is surgery and that has a 50/50 chance of making me completely deaf and it may not work.

Im seriously considering getting my handicap tag though.

Congrats to you! No go to a speed metal show!!

I worked with a guy who wouldn't wear his. One day after he said, 'what? for the 100th time, I grabbed him by the shoulders and said, 'PLEASE WEAR YOUR HEARING AIDS!'

Man I felt like a shit. =(

OK to have spent the thousands of dollars (yes, they are fucking expensive) on his hearing aids, then to NOT wear them... that blows my mind!

sergon makes me sad.

i can't understand shit people say 90% of the time. "frugal what? oh PURPLE" i'm fucked if life or death comes and i have to listen to someone with an accent.

and i have constant vertigo. my ears dont ring all the time, but periodically i'll go damn near deaf in one ear for about 2-3 days.

well i have the hearing aids now, its nice, there not uncomfortable like i was expecting.. but now i'm hearing all sorts of noises and i'm spending all my time trying to figure out what i'm hearing lol.. i swear everywhere i go i can hear someon hammering on something in the distance... well not everywhere, but far more than i'd expected.. i guess i can cought hat up to coincidence..

all in all this is a major improvement in life quality for me.. i'm very happy and now i wish i would have done this sooner!

Vex I get that too.. i'll hear one thing and it wont make any sense, then i'll ask just like you do and they look at ME like i'm nuts.. there the ones who just said "banana's my shoe"
but with the vertigo that's a sign of a fluid imbalence in your inner ear, i'd get into to see an ENT and get checked out..

Sorry to hear that Vex your young around the same age I was when it started. I am not completely blame free in this equation. I was a club hound and use to listen to music blarring in my car and on a walk man for hours when I use to train for marathons and mini triathalons. So I probably contributed to the problem.

It's like most illnesses/conditions/diseases. They can be linked to genetics. Every person is predisposed to developing certain physical problems. If you expose someone to the wrong stimuli they will eventually develope one of these. My father has tinitus and skin cancer as well and thats from 40 years of flying jets. If you dont know you absorb an amazing amount of raidiation every time you fly and he had about 20,000 flight hours. If someone is predisposed to cancer they will end up with it if they expose themself to the wrong stuff enough time.

There is hope though Vex. Over time your brain learns to filter out and deal with the vertigo and ringing. It took me a few years. I was very depressed and confused for a long time. I did not understand why it could not be fixed easily. My hearts with you on this one. I know what you go through every day.

PS get to the doctor though and soon Vex. See a specialist. I had an mri done when they were trying to find out what was wrong with me. There are some very serious and life threatening illness that this could be a precursor to. Go get yourself checked out. Im not trying to scare you on this but I am serious.

Why single out one comment in time, when there are so many others that equally qualify? ;)

I've had three surgeries on my left ear. Two, which cut the ear completely off. Mastiodectomy, tunnel enlargement, chlestiatoma (big ass growth) remove, ect. I'm missing two of the three hearing bones in my left ear. So I feel ya'lls pain on the hearing issue. All my friends are trained to whisper in my right ear if they want me to hear them. I also have nerve damage in the left side of my face steaming from my ear problems.

Wow I guess i should go to the doc then ><

I rarely talk on the phone / to people i dont know, because i get so flustered not understanding what they are saying, cause i just CANT understand the words that are comin out of their mouth! (hi rush hour) . the words get garbled somewhere in between my ear and my brain. Everyone makes fun of me for watching movies with "hearing impaired subtitles" on.

the biggest difference that i've noticed over the last few years, is i used to be able to listen to a song.. 2 times, and know every word to it. Now i have to actually READ the lyrics to know what they are saying most of the time.
