I need a new book
So I just finished Feast of Crows. I picked up Watership Down, and a couple of other random fantasy novels (one on vampires one high fantasy) that seemed like they might be good based on the back. I was really shopping blind though.
After reading the Song of Ice and Fire trilogy I don't think I can go back to reading the types of fantasy books I read before. They will just be to dull and shallow compared. Plus I've read about everything I really wanted to read.
Here is what I like. I don't care what the genre is - what i like is a good story, that is relatively easy to read. I don't want a book that drags and is only good for the literay value - I need the good fun story too. Something that will catch me early and drag me in. I also don't want any of the typical cheesey stuff that people gobble up like Steven King/whatever Koontz/Michael Crichton. I do like some of their stuff, it just isn't what I want right now. I guess I want something deep and rich without the bore of say Tolkien.
Veri how was Magic Street? And when does it come out in paperback?
Melanie Rawn ~ Dragon Prince series
Sara Douglas ~ Wayfarer Redemption series and Troy Game Series
Tad Williams ~ The War of the Flowers (stand alone)
I'd have to go dig through our library to see what else might jump out (we have over 2000 books out right now *sigh* and 8 more cases to find homes for)
Let's see...You might also like Songmaster (by Orson Scott Card ;)).
Or if we're looking to mix it up, The Diamond Age by Neil Stevenson is a heavy hitter sci fi. I enjoyed it and Fozz is over there nodding his head when I pulled that one off the shelf :D.
I know what you mean about trying to find something to follow the Song of Ice and Fire series though *grins*. If you want, I just got Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and it might be fun to have a reading buddy for that; haven't taken it on yet.
I suggest also, Steven Brust's Taltos series. Start on Jhereg, which is the first book, I believe, even though it doesn't come first chronologically. I think the very first one is Yendi, in terms of timeline.
May start with the book you just picked up and haven't read yet Veri. What type of book is that one?
*grins* go get it!
May check out some other George R R Martin books also. And I noticed on his site he reads a series called "Flashman" and loves it.
invisible monsters by chuck palaniuk was good. i dont know if the begining drags tho. sorta
Oddly, I thought those felt much less 'sci fi' and much more 'people-ish'.
I haven't read any Chuck Palaniuk, hmm.
i got to chemistry and threw in the towl. =D i havent finished Children of the Mind yet, i prolly have like 50 pages left. but i got to where ender finally -you know- and didnt go too much farther lol.
watching little bean evolve was sweet. and i ended up not hating Peter so much lol. sigh i just love all those books!
but good recommendation!
for something a little more respected, try Siddhartha, by Herman Hesse.
One of the best books I've read is Post Office, by Charles Bukowski.
