Running out of ideas

okie, here's the scenario and how far i've managed to get.

I have a Dell Dimension 2350 with an integrated vid card. Couple of months ago I installed a nVidia GeForce 5500 PCI card. Took a bit, but i thought i had it working. Until I install EQ2 the other night and found out that the new card did not take like i thought. So I spent some time trying to fix that and it appeared I had. XP is now running off the nVidia card and the integrated card has been disabled. But here's the current problem.

When I shutdown and restart, the computer is booting off the integrated card, so my monitor blacks out. I have to manually switch the cable to the integrated card to log into the computer, then switch back the cable. And half the time, i have to go back through all my settings to get that to work.

any ideas/suggestions are welcome.

Fozz says: There are two bios settings that you have to pay attention to in this situation. The first is to disable the onboard video. Have to make sure the settings are saved. If the onboard video were successfully disabled, you wouldn't be able to plug in a monitor and have it display, so that's probably the first issue there.

Then there's a bios option that you can set that allows you to boot to PCI or VGA first. It's called Initialize Display First, or something like that (that's what it's called in his bios anyway) However, I don't know if, on a Dell, that option is visible in the bios.

Yes its a bios setting. Should be something like boot to AGP/PCI first im sure there is a way to set it in the bios. Most machine if you hit the delete key as they are powering on they will pop you in to the bios.

Im a little confused though. You uninstalled eq 2 and this started. That makes no sense.

actually, installing EQ2 just highlighted that the new card wasn't installed properly. it wouldn't run, since the computer was really only registering the onbaord vidcard (not enough ooomph in the integrated card, ya know?).

messed with the bios as recommeded and all seems to be working alright... keeping fingers crossed and saving up my quaters for the last few bits and bobs I need to build a real system ~ with any luck, will have the money by the end of the year!!!

Thank you, guys!!!

Thats cool Veri. Some folks here might benefit from a well written article. Honestly guys building and trouble shooting pc's is really not that tough.

Well, then, you're more intelligient than I. Even having a desire to learn isn't always sufficient.

I was not saying that. I was saying a well wirrten guide about pcs would be nice for everyone if you dont have alot of experience with the stuff it could very well help out.
