Summer Movies 2006
It looks like the summer movie season's going to get an early start this year on May 12th with Poseidon. A modern remake of the 1972 classic disaster film Poseidon Adventure , Poseidon follows the battle for survival of the cruise-goers after the cruise ship - Poseidon - overturns.
May 19th we see the release of The Da Vinci Code, named after the obvious novel. Tom Hanks, Ian McKellan, Audrey Tautou and a host of other "hey I know that guy" actors fill the cast of this movie that is either sure to be as big a controversy as the book was, or a dead flop because they hosed all Christianic references.
Over the Hedge is that weekend's kiddie movie option. 3D cartoon animals try to invade expanding suburbs for food and fun. Bruce Willis, Steve Carell, Wanda Sykes... Star power, but voiced!
May 26th, X-Men 3: The Last Stand will become the Memorial Day Powerhouse of the year. The trilogy concludes with the introduction of characters we all know and love but haven't seen yet, new powers, more drama, and some surprisingly painful imagery.
Cars will be the next fun film for kids of all ages. A Pixar/Disney film in the fourth-cousin tradition of The Brave Little Toaster, Cars is about a hot-shot stock car (voiced by Owen Wilson) who learns about the true meaning of the dark side of the Force. I mean, friends and family.
Titles seem sparse until June 30th, when the blue tights return. No no no, not Captain Planet. I'm saying that this is the day that Superman Returns. He went away, you see, to visit that ill-fated green snot of a planet Krypton, and came back to find quite a lot of things changed.
A scant week after that, Captain Jack is back. That's right, on June 7th, the Pirates of the Caribbean are also back, this time in a quest for the Dead Man's Chest.
Gonna be an eeeeeenteresting summer. *steeples fingers*
