I work for a Financial company in Norwalk CT, though we have offices in various states and countries around the world. I am at the headquarters where we have 3.5 floors, a pantry in each floor and a cafeteria. Did I mention we get free lunch (up to $8 in said cafeteria) Monday through Thursday?
That aside I am an Administrative Assistant who was hired to be an Excel Specialist. I do some excel and have people from all over the company coming for help but I also do standard assistant crap like book travel and verify expense reports. I work for two of the senior VP's, one is the head of our International offices and the other is the head of US Sales.
We are a fairly youthfull company, though my floor is suits / business wear. People on other floors have visible body mods (lobe stretching, facial piercings in moderation, purple hair) and its not commented on. One of my friends in legal has her ears pierced heavily with an industrial and others. Its a good place to work. We create financial software for market analysis used by companies like Merrill Lynch and we provide data warehousing and access to other databases aside from our own.
Now if it wasnt an hour commute one way, it would be the perfect job.
Boogers.
My assistant is home sick today. Who will make my coffee? =(

I work for a consulting firm that is part of a larger firm that does environmental studies. Our firm does a lot of housing market studies for developers all across the country. But my job in the firm is unique, as a rehabiliation specialist. I work with the State of California, and cities who get funds from the state to help their lower income residents fix up their homes. I underwrite interest free loans, and grants to low income, disabled, and senior homeowners, and remodel their bathrooms, put in energy efficient windows, new roofs, etc., etc. I also am the one who coordinates all the inspections needed (termite, lead based paint, appraisals) and then the contractors. Once the work is done I make sure the city pays the contractors. So I'm like a loan officer, and general contractor.
I love the job...so many of the cities we work in are mainly agricultural and small, with great need in refurbushing the community. Once we get in and fix up 10-20 homes, and spend the money, the cities reapply, and then we fix up another 10-20...everyone benefits.
I work with a mixed bag of people. My boss and a couple guys are older than me, but the majority of the office are 'kids' in their early twenties, right out of college. Dress is casual, as are the working conditions. If I sleep in one day, I just stay late, or make up the time some other day. Pay is good...could always be better, but I'm happy for now :D

mmmmmm. sushi.
I can easily put away $20 in sushi. It's been way too long since I've had any. That is a very valid reason for not liking working nights!
