The game is a beautiful game even at 1024x768 with midrange settings.
For midrange settings, you'd need at least a 128mb card... I have installed it on a 1600mhz PC w/ a 128mb nVidia 6200? I think? and it runs well.
For those of you about to buy Oblivion
Looks like youll need to buy a new video card as well.

yup we had to drop a couple hundred bucks for a new card for X's system. we got the recommended card, a 256mb GeForce 6800. At least now he can run around with not TOO much lag in Oblivion.. but I think he's only at the MIDRANGE settings! But he can run EQ2 at absolute max specs (the ones that warn you they may be unplayable) with only small glitches in town. Oblivion is awesome but the reviews are right that you need a system that cost serious cash to run it well.

I had recently upgraded just before getting the system. Currently running at 1600x1200 with settings maxed out. Occasionally stutters outside though. It runs fine if I reduce the resolution slightly but I won't do that :P. I just wish I had more time to play.
