Math today...

this is so funny and yet so sad...

Subject: MATH

1. Last week I purchased a burger and fries for $3.58.
The counter girl took my $4.00 and I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies. While looking at the screen on her register, I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried.

Why do I tell you this?
Because of the evolution in teaching math since the 1950s.

A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers.)

True, but sad story. A few years ago, just as we walked into a fast food place, their power went out. The manager decided they could sell whatever they had prepared already and handed the cashier a calculator and walked away. She adds up our order, then gets to the tax part and goes, "duh" (well, not really, but you know the look). So we show her how to figure out our tax, make our payment and wait for someone else to get our stuff together while she turns to the next customer. We get to hear as she adds uo their order and charges the same dollar amount in tax that she charged us, even though their cost was different. :/

I'm nervous when I'm confronted with math. I've been awful at it since the 3rd grade, so yeah I remember freezing up when these 2 bitches I worked with at Walden's bookstore ditched me with a line of 15 people. I was new and alone.

THATS MY EXCUSE. I CAN DO MATH, I SWEAR! =(

I'm still emotionally distraught from that moment =(

Math never really bothered me.. I did math competitions in elementary school where you had to do everything in your head (no scratch paper etc, and no erasers) It wasn't until Algebra that math scared and pwned me.. and Geometry, well I literally passed that only because my teacher gave me the grade. (people luv me :angel ) I've always worked with money.. in school as a cashier at a couple places and then I ended up in accounting (god the horror!) and of course now, as a purchasing agent. It's not as complicated as people make it out to be. Just take your time :)

I truly think some people are better predisposed to math than others. I've always hated it, and therefore done badly in classes, but score well on tests, don't really find it that difficult, and have had jobs requiring a lot of it. My daughter, on the other hand, is only recently becoming able to do simple problems in her head...and she's a bright kid.

Some people tend to be really good at math, while others tend to be awful at it. You might know these groups as "men and women", respectively.

In my experince the poeple with the good math skills are more likely to rob you blind... of course i'm basing this off of playing Monolopy with my Wife.. who somehow always manages to be the banker AND the richest player..
or maybe its just women... thieving harpies!
