Empire - new OSC book!

In any case...I'm a little unsure, this might have to be a library check out for me. I love OSC books but I just reread the Shadow series and his politics frighten me. I just don't know if I want to reward his strange fanaticisms...but on the other hand, if he gets this stuff out of his system now maybe his next Ender Book will be dogma free!

It was not the last time we talked but the time before that. You recommended the Briarsomething books to me and I mentioned that hatrack had chapters - I remember because I was reading while we talked :).

im there as dia now. i may have registered before but i couldnt remember its been a bit since i was there. hehe

ive only read the ender series and the women of genesis books. How is the Shadow series, is it good just filled with crazy politics?

*Most* people like the shadow books better then the following Ender books, and think they are more like the first Ender's Game. Most ;)

Oh, the shadow books were -very- good, but they got progressively more preachy to the point where I got uncomfortable and he took Petra's character in directions I really wasn't thrilled with. I still enjoyed them though - it's just that I have a feeling this latest work of his is going to be even -more- preachy and I don't know if I'll enjoy it.

OH! nm i know what you mean know about Shadow series hehe. ya i read them too and i do like them better than Xenocide & ect. I actually read them before i followed Ender off to piggy land. I always liked Bean better he seemed less mopey.

I do remember skimming over some of the really crazy political stuff at a few points. Those books had more action and Xenocide had more scientific that i was thought was slower paced.

There was seriously one part in there that made me mad enough to put the book down...I think this was Shadow of the Giant. But honestly my opinion could be colored by the fact that I read a couple of his articles on Ornery.com. There's some stuff in there that's like O_O.

I never noticed! But I think politics are dumb! I just read for fun and ignore that stuff.

An aside - had I noticed I'd have been pissed - I hate agendas and people selling their shit in my entertainment. This year my favorite in state team WVU started a new series with the other instate Div I school Marshall - whom I also like. Anyway the gov made them start the series. The name? Friends of Coal Bowl. The trophy? Friends of Coal Trophy. Coal is a huge political debate in our state atm /sigh.

Anyone else pick this up? I got it for Christmas :).

OSC claimed on his site that this was the best book he'd ever written...

...I think this was a book he very much wanted to write, and I think Speaker for the Dead is the best book he's ever written :). I'm going to hold off on more until I finish the book....which I'm in no rush to do. How's that for a page turner :(.

I read the first 4 chapters of Empire. it looks interesting. I think I will buy the book. I have to catch up on his older novels. I drifted away from Ender.

So what's teh verdict here?

I still haven't finished it :X. Though I was just considering giving it another try...
