Did he at least die a peaceful death? Hamsters always tend to die in the worst possible ways (microwaves, fireworks, etc...). Sorry for your loss.

That sucks. Sorry for you loss, Vex.

I have lots of pets but no hamsters. Is that young for a hamster to die or is that about right?

It's a nice long life for a hamster.

avg. life span for a hamster is 2 years. so yeah 2.5 was good.

he was a spoiled little guy, and died in his favourite tube.

he had a HUGE cage, but to hell with the skyrise view, he was perfectly content in his cardboard tube.

i buried him in it too.

his last days were spent eating reese's puffs for the most part. so i think he was happy, considering how he'd snatch em up really fast.

thanks all for the condolences. we haven't considered getting another pet for now. we'll see though.

That's cool. If he lived a long life and was happy up to the end, what more can you ask for? Rainee and I have a cat that is nearing the end, we think. It was her mom's cat since it was a kitten and Rainee has had it all her life. The cat is 20 now, and I know its gonna suck real bad for her when he goes. Hell, it will tear me up and he's only been in my house for 2 years. I was never much of a cat person until Smokey. He's a cool cat, but his health is starting to fail him. Personally, I would rather go home today and find he died than have him go gradually and in pain. If I had to, I could have him put down if the time came, but that would be really, really hard.

Anyway, that's why getting into reptiles is cool. I'm not sure about Rainee's basilisks, but my babies (mississippi map turtles) are 2 and 1/2 years old now but have an average lifespan of 55 years. Bastards will outlive me lol. Our corn snake is 1 and 1/2, and they live into their 30s.

If I lived down south and had the yard for it, I'd get a Sulcata tortoise. They grow to a carapace length of about 3 1/2 feet, and live well over 100 years. I'd have to make a condition in my will for him, for sure :p
