i love my job sometimes

Rarely. But sometimes I do. I'm eating my second free lunch this week. And I'm no cheap "date" for my vendors heh. Even better.. both of them were brought back for me so I didn't have to sit around and talk business with people I don't like, my boss did. *happy giggle* I think I'll go buy something for my runtime with the lunch money I saved. :D

So what do y'all like about your job?

Currently the near-limitless internet freedoms. This may be changing this month.

Yay for free food!

I went out with my manager on Tuesday, he didn't even treat me, though I did offer to treat him. Bastage.

Making my own hours is a huge plus for me, in addition to having almost all day to be online, atm anyway. Casual dress...shorts and flip flops in the summer...

Food wise, once a month we have a Costco run for the office, where we're given $250 dollars to buy whatever...sodas, snapples, chips, cheese snacks, cookies, popcorn, all manner of snacks. We're overdue for our January run though :P Things are getting kinda slim.

I have my own office, so the privacy can't be beat.

And too, I only live 5.5 miles from work so my commute time is only 12-15 minutes.

I like that for the most part my routine is 8 to 4:30 M-F. We very rarely have to come in on a weekend or stay after hours (which is priceless considering I work in IT and that usually isn't the case). I also like the people I work with in my department, and our CIO is hands down the best boss I ever had. Those are the things that keep me here :smile

I love my job, but I probably take advantage of it too often =x It's mon-fri, 8-5. I have an assistant who does the grunt work (ie mailing kits out) and I have the entire second floor of this house/office building to myself. It's basically a 1950's A frame house converted into an exam office. I don't work weekends and I never stay late. I can come and go as I please for small things like Dr Appts or appts with Catherine. I can skip out for 2-3 hrs and not sweat it.

I started off as the customer service rep but doing manager duties. They gave me a pay raise and promoted me within 6 months to assistant manager but again still doing Manager duties. I didn't sweat it because half the day I sit and play on my laptop. WOW, Sims2, im'ing friends all day - sometimes messing with poser. It's a relaxed job. Just as long as I get my work done, which I do, and stay off the bosses radars, I'm good.

Speaking of which, my bosses are the nicest men. They even sent me orchids for my birthday which I thought was awesome =) My DM just came up for a visit and he spent most of the day bullshitting with me.

I can also work from home, via internet and checking voicemail. If Catherine's sick, I can bring her to work with me and she just sleeps in my office next to me. We have our own little snack bar thingy upstairs but no monthly funds though. It's technically just me that's the full timer, Jen, my assistant is a temp.

This march i'll be flying up to south carolina for my annual manager's meeting. I should be putting on the manager's title and pay raise officially by then. My DM said it was already in the works to promote me. Why not, I do the work now anyway? All in all, I love my job. After years of doing the retail bullshit, getting paid to stand in heels for 8+ hrs a day for 8 bucks an hour, I make nearly as much as Mike does and our bills are almost paid off. =) I have a pretty view of the intersection too, my fingers are crossed for a non-fatal t-bone!

What happened with that new job you got, Sarah? Isn't that starting soon?

It didn't pan out. They didn't have enough enrollment for two infant rooms so I'm biding my time. It may be August before that happens. I'm ok with that. :)

I'd fly down to South Carolina rather than up if I was living in Alaska. It would be a shorter flight...

That reminds me of something a friend of mine said to me the other week. He had to go to China for work for 10 days. They flew up over the pole, and it was an 18 hour trip. His theory was "China is like halfway around the world...Why didn't we just take off and fly in circles for 12 hours and wait for China to come to us?" :)
