I don't know how to explain my CC. Sometimes I take it upon myself to just do what I'm trying to explain, and post, but I don't know if that makes people mad, that I'm doing stuff to their work.

I would use Dodge and Burn tools to give the portrait a little more depth. The face and upper chest/shoulder look kind of flat, like it is all one piece. If it doesn't upset you click here. Keep in mind I rushed this just to kind of give you an idea of what I was talking about. If you want me to remove the link just let me know.

I would change the font. Although I like the font, I have a hard time reading the characters name.

I like the layout, and the fact that you painted by hand. Not an easy task in my opinion. :)
The colors and the background image works very well here. Oooh ooh, maybe add a flower in her ear...Just a thought though. :) Overall very nice work. :)

I agree with Rikr, you're missing highlights and shadows that would give it more depth. Right now she's hard to see really. I don't know if you want to use the burn tool, but pick where the light is coming from and then imagine where the light is falling and where it doesn't reach - like if she's facing it, there's be more shadows under her jaw, along her ear, give her a little blush on the cheekbone to give it definition.

That's the best I can do with my limited freehand knowledge, although you have an amazing start and it's a beautiful gift for someone, indeed. =)
