Ah HAH! moments

So this morning in the shower, for some very unknown reason, my brain, in its usual creative leaps and bounds, alighted upon the scene in Willy Wonka where Mr. Salt is speaking to Mr. Wonka in one of the rooms after the boat ride.

Mr. Salt looks at some of the boiling, churning vats and says,
"Butter scotch? Butter gin? You running something on the side here?"
to which Mr. Wonka replies,
"Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker."

I've watched Willy Wonka for many many years. I remember watching it on the Disney channel way back when. I remember seeing it three times during my 5th grade music class - in class, mind you - as part of our orchestral "training." My family wore out one tape, and bought it on DVD when it became available.

So I've conceivably been watching this movie for almost 23 years.

And I -just now-, at ~8:15am, March 23rd, 2007, understood the very blatant innuendo in this exchange.

I must be one hell of a prude.

i have had moments like those - things i heard as a kid that i had no reference for but stuck in my head until 10-15 years later i had a "ahha". which usually garnered me some odd looks from anyone who happened to be around as i started laughing for no apparant reason....

Hmm, that's going right over my head. Not seeing the obvious here.

Edit: Nm, asked the husband what it meant.

When I was a young boy scout, I heard the joke:

Q: When does a cub scout become a Webelos?
A: When he eats his first brownie

When I heard it, I didn't get it. I asked what it meant, and the teller told me that brownie was referring to the girl scout equivalent of a cub scout, not the delicious dessert. At this point I was just like "oh, ok" because I thought it was a joke about cannibalism, which I didn't find to be especially funny.

It wasn't until years later that I finally got it.

the problem is when you continue not understanding even when they explain it to you...

I'm sure I could come up with a diagram if needed...

;)

Heck, ask Bunny or Sarah or Shay or Cali. Sometimes things need to be pounded into my head before I get it.

Long time no post. ;O

In The Simpsons, there's a scene where Marge asks, "Has anyone seen that new Woodsy Allen movie?" and Flanders replies "Y'know, I love his movies except that nervous fella's always in them." I didn't get that until about a year ago (22 years old).

D'oh.

The more I think about it, the more I think I don't get it. What the heck IS willy wonka saying? :bricks

You give candy to a woman as a means of endearing yourself to her.

That's dandy.

Liquor is quicker.
