Regretful Romeo? - a poem

I saw you on the street today
And I remembered what we'd had together
A tragic romance involved wholly on stage
Speaking in iambic pentameter

I once claimed you as a crush
And someone I'd truly hope to kiss
To start your life you were in a rush
How much of your youth did you miss?

You're still just as tall, of course
And your smile just as sweet
I wanted to say hi when I saw you
As I rode by while you walked the street

Stopping near the elementary school
To offer a ride to you, now woman, not a girl
Thankfully I am not too big a fool
In this weird and crazy world

While you are safe, the road was not
I was loathe to drive on past
A missed opportunity, sure, but at least I've got
The memory of your smile and the sway of your ass.
