Virginia Tech shootings

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/16/vtech.shooting/index.html

Man.... this world is going crazier by the minute. Blacksburg Virginia is where my Mom's from and she has family who works at the Uni. I just don't understand how people could do things like this.

Thanks for starting this. There still seems to be a lot of confusion as far as what happened, I'm refreshing my news pages...

What the fuck is wrong with people.

met my bf for lunch and saw this on the news. I'm just speechless over the whole thing and can't imagine what they're going through there.

I'm just glad they killed the SOB.

Still haven't heard if he killed himself or the cops got him. As horrible as this is, the way society is now I'm acutally surprised this doesn't happen more often. Too many people out there who are out of control and have easy access to weapons who just figure "fuck it, I'm going out and I'm taking people with me". A very sad story.

Hospitals are reporting up to 20 something injured. This now makes the deadliest school shooting in the US. It's so sad.

They said in the press conferance a few mins ago that he did shoot himself. I really hate it when they take the easy way out; way quicker than they deserve.

I dunno - with the way our justice system works sometimes, I think it's awesome that they off themselves. Otherwise, who knows, depending on his defense he could live out the rest of his life behind bars, being fed, reading books...being alive.

One thing that makes me sick is Jack Thompson is already blaming this on video games and using this to fuel his agenda.

Yeah, I heard that. As far as I've heard, we don't know who the kid even was at this point, and somehow video games are the culprit. Hard to believe that the bodies weren't even cold before someone started playing the blame game.

It is always shocking when things like this happen. I can only hope that they never aren't shocking. I think that's when we know we're in real trouble.

I completely agree.. surprised it dont happen more at all .
AS if we are reverting back to the Stone Age only with better fucking tools ..

This is very sad news, :( My heart aches for those who have family and friends involved.

So easy to point fingers and blame things then to fess up to our own lack of responsibility .. tho. Why not blame games or comics , movies TV etc oh what about the news too?

heh I enjoyed the responce to this post over on the daz forums .. Thought I would share

I hearded about it about 6 PM WET because a neighbour across the street had the radio or telly on cracking loud.
Had to wait an hour for some coherent news as CNN waffled a lot adding to the confusion.

the BBC correspondant gave a bitter comment.

Colombine: Nation wide outrage and nothing was done
Amish school: Nation wide outrage and nothing was done.

19 school schootouts in ten years in the US:
nation wide outrage and nothing was done.

I could stomacj just three words of the presidents speech and then I had to run to the loo for trowing up.

It will be a nationwide( if not world wide) outrage and ......... fill in the gaps.

I can only hope that the outrage will some how confort the parents and loved one of those who lost their lives today, be cause I can't. But I doubt it.

Out of curiosity what would you suggest as a way to keep this kind of thing from happening? Yes, it's a tragedy, but worse things than this happen daily in other countries. Maybe parents should be doing a better job with their childrens upbringing in the first place, that would be a good starting point.
