The death of the diagonal screen...

Just some info.. for y'all who prefer the traditional diagonal to the widescreen size monitors, you should start to seriously consider buying whatever you will want very soon. My company here is having to change our standard approved and stocked monitors (and laptops are affected too!) from a 19" diagonal to widescreen format. (IT techs everywhere weep at the whiney demanding users who will line up wanting to swap out)

It seems the 2 main world wide manufacturers are making the switch to phase out the old style. Right now we're in a nationwide crunch unable to get monitors and all of our corporate locations are almost depleted. People get spoiled by super fast order fulfillment by us and don't order ahead so it would seem =) Of course I'm in the same boat pn the phone yelling at Dell to get me monitors that they just don't have. Ahh, so funny.

I'm just giggling with glee imagining the hell all my IT friends.. and X... will get from their suddenly green users who want to get the nifty new 20" widescreens like the new guy in the cube next to em. Ahh.. oh and the cool thing is the 20" wide will cost less than we were buying the old 19's at. Gotta love that.

we've already started the switchout - the powers that be figured out you could see a heck of a whole lot more of the spreadsheets on a widescreen... should be a fun time *rolls eyes*

In my office about a third of our users ended up getting new systems that would support two monitors - one is rotated 90 degrees so pages look more natural on them.

But you're right; we have a half dozen old CRT monitors that need replacing under warranty and Dell won't replace em yet, citing supply shortage.
