Photoshop CS3 Extended = Useless for Poser texture editing
from the help file:
If the 3D file contains textures, they are opened with the file and appear as separate layers in the Layers palette. You can edit the textures using any of the Photoshop painting or adjustment tools, and then reapply the textures to the model and view the results.
Note: You cannot create new textures in Photoshop, or change how they are mapped to areas of the model.
you can only open .obj's, all obj's in Poser are texture-free, textures are applied with a CR2/PZ2 file.
/sigh
found this on Rosity forums:
Unfortunately I too have been having trouble with .obj files not importing properly into PS CS3 Extneded. I've been doing the video training onf Lynda.com and it was revealed that Photoshop is fussy about textures, some don't import properly--and as mentioned above your texture files must be in the same folder that the .obj file is for Photoshop to find them. I've had the greatest successs importing u3d files, which is like Abode's native 3D format that's used by Arcrobat. Daz Studio at www.daz3d.com is free and it can export u3d files. So a work around for you may be to import your .obj models into Daz Studio then export them in u3d. Sounds like a lot of work I know, but Daz Studio is fun and comes with some nice free content, plus they have free give-away models every week. If you don't want to do that you might want to try exporting in 3ds format, or another format that Photoshop is supposed to support.
haven't tested it yet, but seems like if you open poser, load your model, load your texture you want to edit, then go to file > export > wavefront OBJ, and include materials or whatev, it'll add the .mtl file with your .obj ( not embedded though ), perhaps loading it that way will make it open up the textures.
still seems easier to spend $300 on bodypaint or whatever

Yeah I just went with the regular cs3 on this one, didn't even get the bundle. Figure I'll upgrade my bundle in a couple releases since other than PS I rarely use any of it lol
