It's Fyre!!

Okay, I've been meaning to do this for awhile, but it just keeps slipping my mind... but for anyone who cares, this is what I look like. more or less. the hair color shifts a bit, but there don't seeme to be any pics of the current style (though honestly, the only difference are some gold-blonde highlights....)

that is one of our two ferrets. they worse than any 2yo ever thought of being, i swear, as far as getting into stuff!!

well, i take that back - there are some highlights there - we've been trying to figure out just how many look right in my hair. we were getting ready for the fetish ball - and no, i will not post the pics that came later of what i was wearing later that night!!!

since my own camera is on the fritz, i don;t seem to have any recent pics of the goober - this one is from last summer when my dad came to visit, so the little one was about 15 months old. i know that a friend of mine took some pics recently, but he hasn't emailed them to me yet - it's been kind of hectic around here!!!

I bet Fyre is cutting it's nails. Lol the only reason I know this is because I have to help the hubby do the cats and dogs nails. And beautiful pics btw

yep - trimming the claws. amazing how fast those damn things grow. probably should do it again - and the only way to do it is with someone holding them like that - for some reason they go limp. it's rather funny to watch.

thanks guys!

we used to call it the sleeper hold. grab them like that and they start to yawn and the whole nine yards.

They're illegal in California - bastards!

which totally cracks us up - the whole issue is that they might breed in the wild... uhhh... yeah. major biological problem with that. most states will not allow you to sell one that is unfixed becuase a female that goes into heat will die if she doesn't breed - becuase she does not come out of heat until she's been bred. most breeders/sellers are not going to risk the ferrets life to someone who doesn't understand the limitations of them. they are not like cats - they take a completelty different type of care to thrive. you have to ferret-proof your house - which is harder than proofing for kids (after all, anything they're damn skull will fit through is fair game - you'd be amazed at some of the places we've found them!!). they have special diet requirements. they stink - but only if you give them baths too often (seriously - the more often you bathe them, the worse it gets!!! it's a glandular thing). they horde everything - ours like to hide stuff under the china cabinet - used to be when we'd run out of binkies, that would be the first place we'd look, which was a pain in the ass, lemme tell you. alos, most vets will not see them, becuase they are exotics. our dogs and cats goto one vet, the ferrets go to a different one, who is more expensive.

my dad freaked out when he found out that we had ferrets and i was pregnant - something about them attacking the baby. he had to come visit and see them in action before he realized that, like any animal, its a matter of temprement. the male tends to be a bit nippy - but doesn't bite. he just has this things for ankles, especially if you;re wearing socks.... and he's the one that has a thing for bottles and binkies. we figured out pretty quick that we had to clear the "play area" of such things before letting them loose to have some fun.

They definitely have a musky odor, but I don't think they stink. Of course I had a skunk for a pet once too lol. A lot of people do have them in California, getting them from Nevada, and there are a couple vets in the local area here, sympathetic to the needs of ferret owners, who do take care of them.

My daughter took care of one for a month once, when a friend went to Australia...and that's where I fell in love with them. The are one of the most entertaining pets I've ever been around, and are the perfect size for me...I love very small animals. I still toy with the idea of getting one.
