Underworld Three=Prequel

"Underworld 3: The Rise of the Lycans" is the title for the third installment in Sony's Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment's horror series reports the trades.
Creature FX creator Patrick Tatopoulos will make his directorial debut with the prequel, which starts production in January in New Zealand.
The story is set in the Dark Ages and traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their one-time werewolf slaves, the Lycans.
A young Lycan named Lucian emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor, the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja, in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
Michael Sheen will reprise his role of Lycan master Lucian. Bill Nighy also will return as vampire elder Viktor. Rhona Mitra ("The Number 23") is joining the cast as Viktor's daughter Sonja.
Kate Beckinsale will not appear in the prequel. Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films, will produce. Danny McBride, who co-wrote the first two screenplays with Wiseman, penned the third script.
Prequel. Bah.

The lack of Kate is a disappointment. I also don't quite agree with the "horror" classification. Sure, it's a monster series, but it's just not scary. Doesn't even feel like it's meant to be. It's just fun.

ya know, while seeing their interpratation of things that were mentioned quite a bit in the movies is neat - it would be seriously lacking without kate....

I'm ok without Kate in it, she wasn't in the beginning of the whole story after all.

I don't like it that she's not in it, but considering the story they are telling, it would make no sense for her to be in it anyway. The -only- way I can think of for them to have used her, would have been to make her Sonja and just had her look a lil different, since she was supposed to remind Viktor of his daughter. Even that would be stretching it tho :(

This says it all. While I agree it would make no sense for her to be in a story about the history - that simply means they should have written a different story or time frame for this movie. She is half of their sales if not more - and the main reason I enjoyed them. The storyline themselves were lacking.

Scott blah blah isn't directing either, but will be producing. I found some stills of the movie somewhere, I'll repost them.
