I just got an Alienware laptop too. I havne't had the same problems with Photoshop, but then, I havn't installed it yet. I moved over WoW and that is what I mostly do with it.
I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having! Initially I was having problems with crashes in WoW and I re-installed the graphics driver and that seemed to work,
i hate vista. dont buy vista.
after all day of fighting with it, its finally beaten me down.
earlier this afternoon while i was working, my photoshop kept doing the oddest thing. ALL of my menus would be disabled. grayed out. nothing i could do would fix it. it was random and mostly permanant.
so i tried reinstalling CS3. and tried. and tried. I still havent succeeded.
So i installed CS2. and the same damn problem is happening.
I have next to nothing installed on this piece of shit. ( yeah, the $4k piee of shit alienware with vista on it )
warcraft, hellgate, sims2, poser, daz, random shit like itunes quicktime wmp winzip. you know, the necessities.
i've tried like 6 different antivirus softwares, they all either bug out are make my system crawl. and they dont find anything.
im really getting tempted to reformat and go to XP pro. i fucking hate Vista. I'll lose DX10 which you know, is why i picked vista + a $400 video card upgrade in the first place, but so far its just been fucking hell.
I can install Photoshop CS3 on my mac but then I have 30 days of use. I could get a student version from a friend for $250 i think. but god =(

it took us hours to get EQ2 to work with Vista. And Ican't use Poser 7. Or the damn external drive I bought.... the list goes on. When I looked into reformatting to Vista, I was told that I ran a 50/50 chance of nothing working since the damn thing had been designed to run with Vista.... Still wishing I had had the money just 2 weeks earlier to buy this thing - it would have come with XP!

Vista is a piece of shit. Ive been using XP 64 for awhile on the desktop machine and I love it.

Have you patched it? There are a couple of patches out that might help some.
They are comparing it to Windows ME and saying Vienna it the 2000 of vista. It is not due till 2009.

yeah i keep it up to date with the auto updater. normally i wouldnt but with this OS, nothing can make it run worse than it already does.
I got the photoshop problem fixed by using a CS3Clean.exe utility that Adobe provides. So that postpones any reformatting.
I'm going to try and wait for SP1 and hope it fixes most things.
I heard VIsta is ME2.0 as well. nice to know that NOW instead of 6 months ago!

My favorite "feature" of ME was it wiping out the boot partition. It rocked. The funny thing about ME was I built a machine for my dad who is a computer retard and it ran without a crash for 5 years. He actually fought with me when I went to upgrade him to XP.

Well after various bitching and ranting about Vista, I made sure the laptop I ordered is coming with XP and not Vista. So all I have to worry about is the dual processer thing and EQ...theoretically...

I feel vaguely guilty. I have not had any problems with Vista....yet. The one thing that I did notice (other than WoW crashes) is that it seems to take the operating system a long time to finish loading. I got 2.5 gig but I am starting to think that you really need more than that to run Vista efficiently.

i have 4gig. the max Vista will even use is around 3. ( 2,8 to be exact i think )
and yes, it takes forever to reboot.

Dual core works fine with eq Ive been using a dual core Athlon for 2 years. Vex you will need Vista 64 if you want to utilize all the memory you have the 32 bit versions of windows cant address more than 2.8 but Im sure you knew that.

Ugh... I'll have to watch out for that issue in CS3. My new lappy has Vista and I mostly use it to play EQ2 and do work in Photoshop. That's a problem I've not run into at all tho so far.
