PSA: Obey Posted Rating Limits (Household)
A few years ago we replaced the aging hanging chandelier in our dining room with a ceiling fan.
(I won't go into how it took us 9 hours to do it, with me jerry-rigging a mounting system or anything like that)
But the fan's box and instructions stated to use max 60W bulbs.
Mom put in 5x100 bulbs.
After a while, the fan stopped working. In the process of replacing it a couple months ago, when we also steam-cleaned our carpets, I discovered why.
See why?
The black box you see there is used in some way to control the fan. The brown turdy-like things sticking out are what remains of the capacitors inside. The extra heat generated by the 100W bulbs compared to the 60W bulbs the fan was rated for nearly started a fire. :omg
So please, follow the rating limits.
I am VERY glad that it was discovered before a fire broke out!
my eyeballs would roll back in my head if i saw 1 100w bulb. can't imagine what they'd do with 5.
Probably shrivel up like raisins.
My dad's visually impaired so the brighter light allows him to see better.
However, I rarely turn on lights, unless I'm crafting...never to watch tv, or rarely on the computer, unless I'm doing a lot of typing. I prefer candles.
/cough
Nothing stronger than a 60 in our house, I think.
