Absolutely asinine. Here I am reading about gas prices and wondering how I'm going to afford to go to work, and there are people paying that kind of money for a dessert.
I'll brb, gotta go barf.
:rolleyes
Somehow doubt this belongs in the cooking section =p
Serendipity 3's new dessert
I love that place (the original Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is so good), but to me it just seems like cheating. Like I said elsewhere: I keep seeing people claiming the dessert is that expensive, when a large portion of the cost is for a piece of jewelry. You're not exactly consuming that much - you're just buying some metal, crystal, or gemstone alongside the dessert. I'm starting to think if I ever wanted to break that record, I'd just have to take a scoop of vanilla ice cream and cover it in diamonds.

I'm with Darsa. Talk about not living in reality with the rest of us. $2600 for a lb of chocolate??? Give me a frickin' break.

Other than the expensive publicity desserts, I still recommend that restaurant to anyone who visits NYC. If you've seen the movie Serendipity, that's the place it was named after. They sell the normal Frrrozen Hot Chocolate through their online store (link). The recipe was released after 50 years back in 2004, but the exact ingredients are a pain to get. There's a home version for anyone who wants to try it (link).
The Forbes Traveler link has one dessert that I'd really like to try someday. Still freaking pricy, but not in the ricockulous proportions of the record holders. It's the $48 Valrhona Chocolate Sphere from Dubai (so yeah, probably not gonna ever see it in person). Description: Warm chocolate sauce is poured over a very thin chocolate shell, causing the sphere to implode, which reveals luscious raspberries and layers of chocolate inside. (pic)

Oh that sounds yum and totally fun to eat :D I would probably pay 50 bucks once in my life to have a posh desert that imploded when chocolate sauce hit it LOL
