Great Leaders~

This is a discussion happening on our guild forums - I'd like to have some outside insight on the topic:

It came from a discussion about us (the officer core) not being able to make people care about what they are doing.

Not sayin you guys are doing bad at all but that statement is pretty wrong, Leaders (true leaders) will make the people that they are leading care about it. How you do that is different for everyone.

-- Also was added which has escalated in a discussion as to whether or not True Leaders - can or can not, make people care about things.

When I was still playing eq, the best times we had were when we had something to hate, to be honest. Usually another guild that we pitted ourselves against, which really helped push us to be better. Half the fun was doing what they could - only better. You do have to have that goal - although now I couldn't say what would drive me to want my guild to be successful. It helps having similar personalities, drives and ambitions.

I hear stories about eq guilds who have lazy officers who do nothing but bitch and whine. That really kills a guild spirit. I don't know, Mike was just saying the other day that the best times he had was when we were breaking the rules and killing shit. Involving the guild in that camaraderie is what kept us playing for 6 years.

*scratches head* people aren't motivated to kill things to get loot? I don't know...it's good to have inspiring leaders, certainly, but you've got to have your own drive to contribute.

I think the old saying "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink" might be appropriate here. Great leaders have a knack of making folks follow them; however; not all people can be led.

yous has my karot, sabby.

imo, the world is now too jaded to really compete like guilds used to. people are tired. they're disenchanted. its a job, not an adventure.

all these things cause people to not care.

for the last couple years i played, the only thing i cared about was having the best stats ( for awhile i HAD to fucking beat maelarya's mana pool cause she was such a fucking slut! ) and then it was omg i can't have under 100% raid attendance, and then it was "omg i need to be the first to have all X".

seriously, if the loot doesn't motivate, you need some fresh people.

If it makes you feel better, I think you disliked me more than I disliked you, when we disliked each other...

Ok, so yea!!!

Can True Leaders make people care??~
Vex 18 years ago
you started it roz :P

Personally I think if your guild is already divided between being casual and hardcore raiders - leaders aren't going to be able to unify them. It's all about progression and having the talent to actually kill those mobs.
