I wonder how she came up with that figure. Best Buy was hovering on my 'banned for live' list anyway, for selling neutered versions of products and generally being asshats. I'm amazed at how cavalier they're being about someone's property and personal information.

The comments to the story are rather interesting. I think the part that would have tivked me off is where they waited 3 months to fess up to losing it and kept dragging her along. that part was uncalled for. and then to not even offer enough to replace the laptop itself, much less the programs and data she had? brother.
too bad she won't get the $54M - but with any luck this might get Best Buys attn (yeah, right!!)

The amount has something to do with the recent lawsuit by that particularly moronic and mean lawyer suing the drycleaners about his pants; she states that the amount would gain "media attention". Apparently she's right about that!

I'm glad she's doing it. I know I know, in the lawsuit happy nation we are in, it probably isn't really a good thing. IF this lady has her identity stolen from all of this, and she does have to deal with it, then I hope she is rewarded substantial money. If in fact Best Buy did act the way it is written, then they deserve the lawsuit. I know she won't win the money...well not that much at least. To try to blow her off, when they lost her property that she entrusted them to take care of, is pretty insulting.
