For true. Just take it to the car wash, and power wash it. Let it dry real good though. :) Fans should be easy enough to replace I would think.

My computer would randomly reboot over the past month so I finally opened it up and saw a thick layer of dust, which surprised me because I thought I had cleaned it out well a few months prior, but I do live in the desert, duh. Blew all the dust out with a dust can and haven't had problems yet.

just out of curiosity - how do you clean out a laptop????? or can you?

Very carefully with compressed air.

Make sure you don't spin the fans with it, try to use a chopstick or something thin to prevent them from spinning.

Well I opened up the front and took out some of the dust that had accumulated there and now it starts up fine without the message - I don't know if the message is just disabled or something though. =x Oh well, every thing's backed up at least.

i was using a friends computer this weekend and it started making the most god awful noises. I asked hm how often it did that and he said "all the time". So i asked him when he last cleaned it out. he just stared at me. so I spent part of the evening showing him how to clean out the damn thing. It's less than a year old and if we hadn't cleaned it out, I'm willing to bet he would have lost the fan in the next month. The intake was 90% blocked. poor thing was struggling to get air!!

I knew I wrote something about this ;)

i missed that one. maybe we need to have a... what? quarterly? reminder posted for everyone to pop their computers opne and spend 15 mintues cleaning them?
